Animal Cell : MITOSIS Interphase
CROPPED PHOTO with LABEL DESCRIPTION (Events/Parts)

● Gap 1, Synthesis, Gap 2

○ Gap 1: the cell grows, synthesizes proteins
○ Synthesis: DNA is duplicated
○ Gap 2: The cell continues to grow and
produce proteins
● Checkpoints:
○ Gap 1: checks if the cell is growing
correctly
○ Synthesis: checks if the DNA is being
duplicated properly
○ Gap 2: checks if the DNA was replicated
properly and that is the cell is growing
properly

● Chromatin Condense into well defined

chromosomes
● Each chromosome is made up of 2
chromatids joined by a centromere
● Centrioles separate and move to opposite
sides of the cell
● Nuclear membrane breaks down
Animal Cell : MITOSIS Metaphase

● The chromosomes align and are condensed

at the center of the cell.

● fourth phase of mitosis, the process that

separates the duplicated genetic material
carried in the nucleus of a parent cell into
two identical daughter cells.
● Spindle fibers shorten, the kinetochores
separate, and the chromatids are pulled
apart and begin moving to the cell poles.
Animal Cell : MITOSIS Telophase
CROPPED PHOTO with LABEL DESCRIPTION (Events/Parts)

● The chromosomes are at the opposite sides

of the cell and the cell is about to divide
Forming into. The nucleus of the two daughter cells
nucleus begin to form. This is the last stage for
mitosis before cytokinesis
● In telophase, the cell is nearly done
dividing, and it starts to re-establish its
normal structures as cytokinesis (division of
the cell contents) takes place.

● Gap 1 Phase- cells increase in mass and

must be large enough, have plenty of
nutrients and undamaged DNA to pass the
Interphase checkpoint in order to enter the next
phase.
● Synthesis Phase- DNA synthesizes and
duplicated.
● Gap 2 Phase- Protein synthesis and the cell
continues to grow in size. The checkpoint
checks whether the cells copied the
chromosomes correctly.

Metaphase, the ● Metaphase is the third phase of mitosis, the

fragmentation along the cell’s center process that separates duplicated genetic
material carried in the nucleus of a parent cell
into two identical daughter cells. During
metaphase, the cell's chromosomes align
themselves in the middle of the cell. The
chromosomes, which have been replicated
and remain joined at a central point called the
centromere, are called sister chromatids
Plant Cell : MITOSIS Anaphase
CROPPED PHOTO with LABEL DESCRIPTION (Events/Parts)

● cohesin proteins binding the sister

chromatids together break down
● sister chromatids (now called
chromosomes) are pulled toward
Sister opposite poles
chromatids ● non-kinetochore spindle fibers
lengthen, elongating the cell

Spindle poles

● The contraction of Spindle fiber ends

● Sister chromatids are at separate
poles
Telophase ● Cytokinesis happens
- Cell plate forms and separates original cell into
2 daughter cells
● New nuclear envelope forms around
the chromosomes
