FINALIZATION
PROBLEM FINALIZATION

After literature review,

the research problem can
be specified or refined
and finalized.
PROBLEM FINALIZATION

The variables under

study should be clear in
the purpose statement
and/or research
problems/objectives.
Purpose Statement

This provides the reader with the overall focus

and direction of a study.
Example (Quantitative):

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between

high school completion and
negative peer pressure of students in the Philippines.
Research Question

The research question(s) narrows the purpose down to

a specific question(s) for the researcher to find
answers.

Example (Quantitative):
Does negative peer pressure affect the high school
completion of students?
Hypotheses

These are statements a researcher makes about the potential

outcome(s) of a study based on the examination of literature.

Example:
Students who have a higher influence by negative
peer pressure will have a lower likelihood of completing
high school.
Research Objectives

These are goals a researcher has for a study.

This component is not always included in a study.

Example:
To examine the correlation between negative peer pressure and the
rate of college completion of high school students.
RESEARCH
PLANNING
RESEARCH PLANNING

The plan on the research

methods or procedures to
be implemented is crafted
after the main purpose and
specific problems of the
research are finalized.
RESEARCH PLANNING

The research design, sampling and

participants, instrument selection or
development, data collection and
data analysis procedures are
specified in order to address the
purpose of the research and to
answer the research problems.

QUESTIONNAIRE

This is a research instrument consisting of a

series of questions and other prompts for the
purpose of gathering information from
respondents.

TEST

Produce numerical scores that can be used

to identify, classify or evaluate test takers.
