INTEGRATIVE

APPROACH TO HEALTH
ASSESSMENT

Integrative medicine incorporates:
 Medical care- is medical care
provided by a doctor or nurse, or
to ensure a patient's health and
safety.

 Complementary medicine-
treatments that are not part of
mainstream medicine but can be
used in conjunction with it to treat
disease and poor health. 
An integrative medicine is considered holistic because
it looks at all aspects of the human health and body.

Medical practitioners practicing integrative medicine


take into account the patient’s overall health and well-
being as part of their treatment plans.
Why holistic approach is important
It looks at one as a whole person.
It Treating a long-term sickness with a comprehensive
strategy
Holistic approach gives the possibility to reverse disease,
(Infinity, 2020).
Aspects in integrative wellness.

It encompasses eight dimensions.


They include:
 Emotional part dealing with our own
individual emotions.
 Environmental angle examines one's
immediate surroundings
 The intellectual side is concerned with one's
mental state.
 Physical aspect is all about physical health.

 Occupational pertains to one's line of work or


vocation.
 Spiritual- these are factors related to the spirit or
soul.
 Social- refers to connections and interactions with
others
 Financial- relates to money matters.
Self assessment
• Weekly Sleep Foundation quizzes will keep me on
target.
• Every month, I will take the Kaiser online exam.
• Everyday lung tests will be done.
• examining through my toilet paper to see if
anything unusual after visiting the toilet.
• If I start to feel depressed, I will take a depression
test.

Physical Wellness Plan

My physical wellness plan will include:

Eating two meals a day each meal having a


portion of vegetables and a fruit
Taking one-hour early morning runs
Sleeping for a maximum of 8 hours a day.
Psychological health
For psychological health, I will:
 Always treating myself with kindness and respect and avoid self-
criticism
 Volunteering my time and energy to visit children’s homes
 Reading books on mental health daily, one hour in the morning
 Take 30 minutes before bedtime to do Self-reflection
 Listening to music
Stress management
In order to manage my stress the below actions will be
taken:

 Visiting a physiatrist every last Saturday of the month


 Reading books on stress management every Sunday
afternoon
 Watching two episodes of sitcoms every evening
 Taking a nature 30 minutes walk in a forested area
Resilience wellbeing

My wellness plan to improve my resilience includes:

 Avoiding negative self talk

 Developing and focusing on interpersonal skills

 Setting realistic achievable and measurable goals.


Scientific evidence
Sleep:
 During waking hours, the brain appears to be less efficient at removing waste
products from its cells, (González-Mesa et al., 2019).
Meditation
 Stress and anxiety are reduced, and an increased capacity for kindness is
fostered due to meditation's positive effects on mental health.
Healthy eating
 Eating a healthy diet lowers one's risk of developing heart disease and type 2
diabetes
Volunteering
 Volunteering boosts a person's social network, power, and reputation, all of
which lead to greater physical and mental health. Volunteering benefits all
parties involved.
Conclusion

 When I initially started, I assumed Wellness was


just another usual course, but as the semester
continued, I realized that it actually provided
valuable information on how to be healthy and
take care of one's own health and well-being.
