DEFINITION OF STORY TELLING
METHOD OF LERANINNG

 Storytelling method is a basic teaching method

 Storytelling is a means for sharing and interpreting experiences.
 The teacher gives an experience which is based on the topic if discussion
 It can be real or an imagined scenario·
CHARACTERISTIC OF STORY TELLING

 uses transitions/connecting words to show the sequence of events in paragraphs.

 uses description and dialogue to create characters and locations. describes rather than
informs; shows the reader something happening rather than telling that it occurred.
 uses a clear point of view from which the story is told.
TIME WHEN STORY TELLING IS
APPROPRIATE
 WHEN INTRODUCING A NEW TOPIC
 Its used as an icebreaker. It helps students to relate to the topic and get them interested in it before
teaching them the new topic.

 TO ENHANCE ANY SUBJECT
 Teaching through storytelling brings a boring subject to life. It makes it more exciting and possibly
engage students to want to know more about the topic.

 TO ATTRACT UNMOTIVATED STUDENTS
 Storytelling captures the attention of students and thus helps the unmotivated students to pay attention
in the story and through the story they can be able to relate it with what is taught.

Cont..

 TO ILLUSTRATE A CONCEPT
 Retaining hard facts does not come easy for everyone. Storytelling thus helps to illustrate
new concepts in way that is easy for everyone to understand. For example ; in explaining
the concept of concentration in moles, teacher can use the story of adding sugar to the tea.
This will help the students understand that the more the sugar is added to the tea the more
concentrated the tea becomes until it reaches a point of saturation
Advantages of storytelling

 1- Stories connect the audience to the underlying message

It’s easier for people to remember something when they have a meaningful connection to it based on
some kind of emotional response. When stories invoke the emotions of the listeners or readers, or
remind them of an experience, it helps them to better relate to the story and to feel invested in the story.
As a result, this increases the chances of the students remembering the message or lesson from the story.
  2- Storytelling helps organize information to present to students.
When presenting information to a group of students, using a story format of a beginning, middle, and
end helps students remember the main topics of the presentation.
  3- Stories develop listeners’ imagination and listening skills
A good story can transport learners out of their current environment and into a world of imagination and
adventure. This allows students to perceive things differently, think about issues in new ways, and come
up with new ways to solve problems. Also, listening skills are further developed when students listen to
a story and pay attention to particular details.

  4- Stories can motivate listeners to learn

When students hear stories that grab their attention, they become motivated to learn. Students who are self-motivated are
more independent and responsible for their own work and actions. They’ll want to learn more about a particular topic or
pick up a particular book. Stories can also encourage and inspire students to take action or complete a task they’ve been
putting off for a while. They may even decide to write their own version of the story!
  5- Stories help students reconnect with themselves
In this day and age of technology, social media, and other distractions, hearing a story can bring people back down to Earth
and focus on the now. It can help people relate to each other through common interests and emotional connections.
Students who are English language learners can also further develop their desire to learn English and new vocabulary, and
their confidence to learn content.
 6- Stories that are interesting are more likely to be shared
When people like a story, they share it with others, whether orally, in written form, or through social media. This allows
students to connect with each other, share information, and spread news or topics that could affect others in a positive way.

disadvantages
 Passivity
 Too much use of the storytelling method can lead the learners to become passive listeners.
 Less Questioning
 Learners may not be able to question much and hence, won’t understand the lesson much better.
 Less Active Participation
 When learners become passive listeners, they become less active participants.
 Lack of Learning by Doing
 Learning by doing isn’t implemented in this method.
 Monotonous
 Excessive use of this method can lead the lesson to become monotonous and tedious.
 The audience and storyteller can be easily distracted
 Some people, especially children, have a short attention span. For this group of people, oral storytelling may not be the best
way to tell them a story. With storybooks, you can take a break from reading and continue later.
Topics to use the method


 * Explaining the process of building an entire structure from start to finish
 * Showcasing the intricate details of a certain construction project
 * Discussing the technology and engineering used in modern construction
 * Teaching about the challenges faced in the construction industry
 * Presenting the different stages of a construction project
 * Showcasing the different roles and responsibilities of those involved in construction
 * Sharing success stories of construction projects that have been completed
 * Exploring the environmental impact of construction
 * Answering questions about safety and regulations in the construction industry
CONCLUSION

 Storytelling is a powerful teaching method when properly used and can be highly be
influential
 To sum up on the story telling method Of teaching we find that it’s quite an important
method to use in learning and should be used in teaching
