Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be
able to:

a) solve problems involving permutations

(M10SP-IIIb-1)

b) appreciate the importance of permutation

in making wise decision
Problem: Problem: Ms. Ann secured a document with 4 digits
password. Later, she realized that she forgot the 4-digit code that
she has used. She only remembered that the code contains the digits
0, 1 , 2 , and 7 .
(Guide questions)
a. How many different codes can be created out of the given digits?
b. I have used one of the codes identified to lock a document, can you help me
unlock the document to claim the prize? What is your guess then?
c. What did you feel while doing the activity? Especially in unlocking the
document.
Can you unlock the document without having the list of possible passwords?
d. Explain how to find the number of codes possible if there are 6 digits
available.

In English “!” is called an exclamation
point. Exclamation marks were
originally called the "note of admiration ,
exaggeration“

In Filipino “!” it is read as “Tandang

Padamdam” bantas na tumutulong upang
maiparamdam sa mambabasa ang isang
masidhing damdamin.
Mathematicians use an
exclamation point to indicate the
product by writing n!.
“!” READ AS FACTORIAL
The exclamation point is the
factorial symbol, and n! Is read
as “n factorial.”
In mathematics, the symbol
represents the factorial operation.
The expression n! means "the
product of the integers from 1 to n
". ...
(4! Read as four
factorial) is
4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 24.
A permutation is an
arrangement of things in a
definite order or the ordered
arrangement of
distinguishable objects
without allowing repetitions
among the objects.
In general, if n is a
positive integer, then n
factorial denoted by n! is
the product of all integers
less than or equal to n.
n!= n(n-1)(n-2)...(2)(1)
special case,
we define
0!=1.
1. In how many ways can 12 people arrange
themselves in a row for picture taking?
2. A teacher wants to assign 4 different tasks
to her 4 students. In how many possible ways
can she do it?
3. In how many different ways can 10 people
occupy the 10 seats in a front row of a mini
theater?
4. Find the number of different arrangements
of the set of the six letters j,o,y,f,u,l taken two
at a time.
Find the number of permutations of
the letters of the word
Papilionaceous
Papilionaceous is a word about transformation,
particularly one that resembles the change from
cocoon to butterfly. It can describe internal
changes in a person undergoing a
transformation of mindset or belief.

Jeopardy
Mechanics:
1. There are 20 questions divided into 4 categories namely: (a) Permutation of n things
taken r at a time and all at a time, (b) circular permutation, (c) distinguishable
permutation and (d) problems involving permutations.
2. Each category contains 5 questions with 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 as the corresponding points
depending on the level of difficulty of the question.

3. The 2- and 4-point questions shall be answered in 15 seconds, 20 seconds for the 6-
and 8-point questions and 30 seconds for the 10-point questions.
4. The quiz master (facilitator) will pick the first category. After which, ask a team to
pick the next question/category. Prioritize the team who answered the previous question
correctly in picking the next question/category.
Mechanics:
5. Each team will be given 2 flags, 1 blue flag and 1 red flag. Each flag shall be used
once.
6. If a team wishes to double their score, they can raise their blue flag. However, if they
raise their blue flag and got an incorrect answer, half of the corresponding points shall be
deducted from their score. For instance, if blue flag is raised in 4-point question and got
a correct answer, they will earn 8 points for that question. On the other hand, 2 points
shall be deducted if blue flag is raised and with an incorrect answer.

7. If a team wishes to triple their score, they can raise their red flag. However, if they
raise their red flag and got an incorrect answer, twice of the corresponding points shall
be deducted from their score. For instance, if red flag is raised in a 10-point question and
got a correct answer, they will earn 30 points for that question. On the other hand, 20
points shall be deducted if red flag is raised and with an incorrect answer.
8. If no flag is used in a particular question, no point shall be deducted for incorrect
answer on that question.
What is permutation?

arrangement of distinguishable
objects without allowing repetitions
among the objects.
What are the types of Permutation?
Linear (without allowing repetition)
