Union vs RNE
„political parties soon began broadcasting through their own stations,
often using low powered short wave transmitters supplied by radio
amateur supporters. In Barcelona the UGT and the CNT trade unions, the
"Iberian Anarchist Federation" (F AI), the Communist led "Catalan United
Socialist Party" (PSUC), the anti-Stalinist "United Marxist Workers Party"
(POUM), and the "Left Republican Party" (IR) all broadcast on 40 meters.
In Madrid IS different Republican broadcasting stations were active during
the winter siege of 1936 though only three answered directly to the
official Junta de Defensa. As a whole, the republic broadcasting reaction
created a "chaos" environment.”
