NERVOUS TISSUE
Tissue: Nervous (Slide generally says “motor nerve cells”)
Label the Following:
Cell body
Nucleus
Axon
Dendrites
NERVOUS TISSUE
Function:
Neurons transmit electrical signals from sensory receptors
and to effectors (muscles and glands) which control their
activity
Supporting cells support and protect neurons
Location:
Brain
Spinal cord
Nerves
MUSCLE TISSUE
Muscle Tissue
Tissue: Skeletal Muscle
Label the Following:
Striations
Nucleus
Muscle fiber (cell)
SKELETAL MUSCLE TISSUE
Function:
Voluntary movement
Locomotion
Manipulation of the environment
Facial expression
Voluntary control
Location:
In skeletal muscles attached to bones or occasionally to skin
SMOOTH MUSCLE TISSUE
Muscle Tissue
Tissue: Smooth Muscle
Label the Following:
At least one cellular unit
Nucleus
SMOOTH MUSCLE TISSUE.
Function:
Propels substances or objects (foodstuffs, urine, a baby) along
internal passageways; involuntary control
Location:
Mostly in the walls of hollow organs
CARDIAC MUSCLE TISSUE
Muscle Tissue
Tissue: Cardiac Muscle
Label the Following:
Striations
Nucleus
Intercalated discs
CARDIAC MUSCLE TISSUE.
Function:
As it contracts, it propels blood into circulation; involuntary
control
Location:
The walls of the heart

SIMPLE SQUAMOUS
Epithelial Tissue
Tissue: Simple squamous epithelium
Label the Following:
Plasma membrane
Nucleus
Function:
SIMPLE SQUAMOUS.
Allows material to pass by diffusion and filtration in sites where
protection is not important; secretes lubricating substances in serosae
Location:
Kidney glomeruli
Air sacs of lungs
Lining of the heart
Blood vessels
Lymphatic vessels
Lining of ventral body cavity (serosae)
PSEUDOSTRATIFIED COLUMNAR
Epithelial Tissue
Tissue: Psuedostratified ciliated columnar epithelium
Label the Following:

Function:
Secrete substances , particularly mucus
Propulsion of mucus by ciliary action
Location:
Lines the trachea, most of the upper respiratory tract

Connective Tissue: Bone
Tissue: Compact bone (Osseous Tissue) CT
Label the Following:
Osteon – structural unit of compact bone
Central canal
Osteocyte in lacunae
Lamella
Canaliculi
BONE (OSSEOUS).
Function:
Supports and protects (by enclosing)
Provides levers for the muscles to act on
Stores calcium and other minerals and fat
Marrow inside bones is the site for blood cell formation
(hematopoiesis)
Location:
Bones
