What is GPR..,
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a real-time NDT
technique that uses high frequency radio waves,
yielding data with very high resolution in a short
amount of time.
This technique uses electromagnetic waves that travel
at a specific velocity determined by the permittivity of
the material.
HOW DOES GPR WORK?
WHAT DOES GPR DETECT?
Ground Penetrating Radar signals can be used to
find a wide range of items.
GPR is often used to map items made of the
following materials:
• Metal,
• Plastic,
• PVC,
• Concrete,
• Natural materials.
Principle
GPR technique is based on the principle of
reflection of electromagnetic waves to locate the
natural and cultural features.
The electromagnetic wave is radiated from a
transmitting antenna, travels through the material
at a velocity which is determined primarily by the
permittivity of the material.
Depth of investigation
Typically, the depth of investigation using a GPR
varies due to certain onsite conditions, The
moisture, salt and clay content and water table.
Ideally, under dry conditions, low frequencies will
penetrate deeper but resolution will be low, higher
frequencies the subsurface with high resolution
but depth is limited.
