Getting a Pulse

on RTI / AIS
What have we done to date?
• Universal screening has been completed
• iReady + two or three others as a balance
• Students who are achieving in the 20th percentile have been identified as those who
need an intervention
• If all students in the 20th percentile have been accounted for, work with your grade level team
to determine who makes the most sense to receive an intervention.
• Tier 2 intervention plans were created for those students
• A letter went home to parents explaining that their child is receiving an intervention
• Cover letter from me
• Additional letter with intervention information
A few lessons learned…
• iReady is not always accurate so those additional assessments are critical.
• This is messy work… especially when deciding who to pull for interventions.
• Always make decisions as a team and keep records of those decisions and their
supporting evidence. (Take notes!)
• Interventions are not effective if they’re not consistent. (attendance/subs)
• Some interventions may only take 10-15 minutes. Others will take 30+ minutes.
• Some grade levels do not need anyone to watch their enrichment kids. Other
grade levels do.
Where are we headed?
• Monitor student progress!
• Continue with your intervention groups through Christmas break. Be
ready to start new groups (if needed) in January.
• Determine student groupings as a team.
• The January intervention window will run from 1/3 through 2/18. We
will start a new 6-week window on 2/23.
• The next screening window will occur from 1/24 – 2/11.
Data Meetings
• Grade Level Data Meetings
• Meetings 1x/week
• Review your students’ data independently, jot down anything you notice
(trends, anomalies, surprises, etc.)
• Meet with your grade level team to share your observations, ask for feedback,
and explore research-based strategies
• Data PLC
• Meetings daily
• Building our bank of resources
Your task
• Please send me a list of who is sitting on your grade level team
and the day/time you plan to meet each week
• At your next meeting, draft a list of…
• What has worked…
• What hasn’t worked…
• What you still need help with…
• Ideas for SPED/ENL for additional interventions
• Ideas for other students who need additional support
