Welcome to our

Science Class

Ms. Carla Annabelle S.

At the end of the lesson, learners
should be able to:
❑Identify and describe the
functions of the organs of the
Circulatory System.
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
❏ is also known as Cardiovascular System
❏ Responsible in transporting food nutrients,
oxygen and wastes that circulate throughout our
body.
❏ It also provides the body with a natural defense
mechanism against diseases
The Circulatory System consists of

1. Heart 2. Blood

3. Blood Vessels
Heart
•Is a hollow muscular organ which
has the size of one’s fist
•It pumps blood to every part of the
body

(the Pumping station of blood)

Blood ● The blood is the “liquid vehicle”
that carries oxygen, nutrients,
salts, hormones and other
substances that sustain life.
● There are 4 main blood groups
(types of blood) – A, B, AB and
O.
4 Components of the Blood
1. Red Blood cells or Erythrocytes
- Carry oxygen throughout the body
- Hemoglobin- iron substance that gives red color to the blood

2. White Blood Cells or Leukocytes

- They are the soldiers inside our body responsible in killing germs and other
disease-causing microorganisms
3. Platelets or Thrombocytes
- Help clot blood when organisms are wounded

4. Plasma
- It is yellowish liquid portion of the blood.
- It transports nutrients to the cells and carries waste materials.
The Sandugo was a blood compact,
performed in the island of Bohol in the
Philippines, between the Spanish
explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and
Datu Sikatuna the chieftain of Bohol
on March 16, 1565, to seal their
friendship as part of the tribal
tradition.
Blood Vessels
● are intricate networks of hollow
tubes that transport blood throughout
the entire body.
● This is an essential function as blood
delivers valuable nutrients to and
removes wastes from our cells.
THINK OF THIS:
You are still very young and cannot be a blood
donor. However you can do something to help in
blood donation activities of your community.
Describe what you can do now to help and what do
you plan to do later when you are already at the
right age of donating blood.
