Rule 1: Driving Safety

Vehicles shall be driven only by authorized driver

 You will be authorized to drive Khalda

car only after satisfying the followings:

 Possession of a valid Egyptian Driving

License for car type driven. / International


driving license for expatriates only
 Possession of a valid TOFS Permit to
Drive
 Receiving the mandatory defensive driving
course before start driving TOFS vehicles

Vehicle shall be in good conditions and maintenance shall be
done regularly

 Driver / Company cars users


must check the vehicle before
starting their journey and
reject the vehicle in case of
non-conformity making the
vehicle unsafe

Seat belts shall be installed and fastened by all occupants

Driver/ Company car user is responsible for all passengers fastening the seat belts
on the assigned vehicle; All vehicle occupants shall wear seat belts while the
vehicle is in motion

Daily driving maximum hours and rest periods shall be
respected

 To protect the health and safety of drivers and their


passengers, KHALDA driving policy shall always be followed
and the following shall apply:
 Drivers should not exceed safe limits for driving hours, not
allowed to drive two shifts in a row and taking care that the
driver should have a safe limit from comfort as well as to be
in proper physical condition
 Drivers are responsible for ensuring that they do not consume
alcohol, drugs or fatigue-inducing drugs while driving
company cars
 Driving during dark hours either outside town or inside
fields is forbidden, only under work requirements with
dedicated official Permit

Car Speed Limits
 Car Speed shall be within the formally established limits
 Alexandria - Matrouh 100
 El Natroun Road 100
 Eld Abaa New Road 120
 Alexandria Desert Road 120
 El Zaafarana Road 110
 From International Road to El Zaafarana Road 110
 Ring Road 90
 Sokhna Road 120
 In fields limits 30/50/80

 Car Speed Shall be adjusted depending on


 Road conditions, Asphaltic, Sandy, Dusty, Muddy
 Weather conditions & Sunny, Windy, Rainy
 Presence of pedestrians

Driver shall adopt a defensive behavior in respect of other road users and
environmental condition

 In case of extreme weather condition which limit the visibility

to less than 10 MT, driving company cars is not permitted


unless in case of emergency and rescue
 Field Transportation Manager and driver are responsible
together for judging the weather conditions to determine
whether it is advisable to drive under such conditions
 If extreme weather conditions are anticipated the driver must
stop the vehicle in the closest safe area or moving to the nearest
agreed premises
 In any case the driver is sole responsible for deciding to stop,
to reach the nearest premises

Driver shall be physically qualified by a medical Certificate of Fitness to Drive

 Fitter drivers have fewer accidents; therefore drivers shall receive medical support to
maintain their fitness. To support the Driver Fitness program, the following shall apply:

 Before issuing a Permit to Drive all drivers shall undergo a medical examination.

 Drivers must advise their manager if they are taking drugs that may impair their
performance. This includes cold medication.
 All KHALDA Drivers must undergo medical assessment to assess their suitability to
drive company vehicles and must as a minimum meet the medical standard set out for
Drivers as per KHALDA Occupational Health Management System.
 In addition, all Drivers will undergo formal eyesight testing and drug and alcohol
screening.

Driver is not allowed to use mobile phone, drive with any unfit
shoe or barefoot

 Driver / Company cars users are not


allowed to use the radio equipment
(VHF / CB / etc.) or mobile phone while
driving
 Upon receiving a service call or if
communication is needed, he must stop
the vehicle
 No driving is permitted with slippers,
any other unfit shoes or barefoot

Driving shall not be done under the influence of alcohol or drugs

 Drivers shall not operate vehicles if they have


consumed medicines in the previous eight hours that
can induce sleeping.

 In particular for what concerns alcohol consumption,


the maximum blood alcohol concentration for
professionals drivers (own or of contractors) is fixed at
0%, irrespective of possible more lenient local norms;
this shall be expressly mentioned in the contracts signed
with local contractors, imposing if needed penalties at
their expense in case of ascertained violation of such
requisite.

Drivers experience

Drivers shall have enough experience to operate the class of


vehicle and have the appropriate certificate with them

Any load shall be secured and its mass known and within the capacity of the
vehicle

 Loads arrangement in the cargo area and their fastening are the responsibility of the
driver, who shall always require the formal endorsement of a load owner officer. The
formal endorsement of a load owner officer is mandatory for dangerous goods.
 Loads dimensions and weight must not override the dedicated cargo area length, width
and weight and height rating.
 Weight of any single load item or weight of stacked loads cannot override vehicle cargo
area specific pressure rating.
 Dangerous goods that are being transported must be accompanied by documentation
identifying the dangerous goods and the hazard they present to any person, to property or
to the environment, as appropriate to the nature and quantity of the dangerous goods
