DE LETRAN.
HOWEVER. BECAUSE OF HIS FATHER’S DECISION TO
STUDY IN ATENEO INSTEAD OF LETRAN JOSE RIZAL
FACED HARDSHIP TO MATRICULATE IN ATENEO.

MONTH, HE BECAME A EMPEROR. HE WAS THE BRIGHTEST
IN THE WHOLE CLASS. TO IMPROVE HIS SPANISH, HE TOOK
PRIVATE LESSONS IN SANTA ISABEL COLLEGE
 
BECAUSE OF THE VITALITY OF SPANISH  LANGUAGE IN
PRE-COLONIAL ERA, IN THE SECOND HALF OF HIS FIRST
YEAR IN ATENEO RIZAL DID NOT TRY HARD ENOUGH TO
RETAIN HIS ACADEMIC SUPREMACY WHICH HE HELD
DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE TERM. 

SUMMER VACATION (1873)- 


because of his mother's situation Jose Second year in Ateneo (73-74)- compared to

PHILIPPINES IN 1859-1860. JAGOR’S PREDICAMENTS WAS, SPAIN
IN A LONG RUN WILL LOSE CONTROL OF THE PHILIPPINNES
AND BE SUCCEDED BY THE US.

 HE  WAS VISITED BY HER MOTHER IN HIS THIRD YEAR


COLLEGE, HE THEN HAVE A HAPPY FAMILY. HOWEVER
THOUGH MANIFESTING EXCELLENCE  IN ALL OF HIS
SUBJECTS. HE FAILED TO WON THE SPANISH MEDAL
BECAUSE HE IS NOT FLUENT IN SPANISH LANGUAGE PLUS
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH HIS ACCENT. NONETHELESS,
HE WON THE LATIN MEDAL.

FOURTH YEAR TO ATENEO - (1875-76)-


AFTER SUMMER HE WENT BACK TO MANILA FOR HIS
FOURTH YEAR IN ATENEO . ON JUNE 16, 1875 HE BECAME
AN INTERNO IN ATENEO. ONE OF HIS FAVORITE
PROFESSOR IS FR. FRANCISCO DE PAULA SANCHEZ A
GREAT EDUCATOR AND SCHOLAR. HE HAVE  A COLOSSAL
INFLUENCE  TO RIZAL’S INTEREST IN WRITING POETRY.

LAST YEAR IN ATENEO (1876-77) - HE WAS BADGE AS “THE


MOST BRILLIANT ATENEAN OF HIS TIME”, HE WAS TRULY
“THE PRIDE OF THE JESUITS’. HE OBTAIN THE HIGHEST
GRADES IN ALL OF HIS SUBJECT (PHILOSOPHY, PHYSICS,
BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, LANGUAGE, MINCRALOGY, ETC.)

 
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN ATENEO
 
RIZAL ACADEMIC BRILLIANCE NEVER STOPPED HIM TO ENGAGE IN
DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE THE FOUR CORNERS OF HIS
CLASSROOM IN ATENEO. HE WAS AN ACADEMIC ACHIEVER AND ALSO
A STUDENT LEADER. HE ALSO JOINED SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS.
SCULPTURAL WORKS IN ATENEO –
 BECAUSE OF JOSE RIZAL’S TALENT IN SCULPTURE WHICH HE
PROVES WHEN HE CURVE THE IMAGE OF THE VIRGIN MARY IN A
BATIKULING OR A HARD WOOD, FATHER LLEONART REQUESTED
HIM TO MAKE AN ART OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS WHICH
THE YOUNG BOY HAPPILY COMPLIED.

ANECDOTES ON JOSE RIZAL, THE ATENEAN-
 DURING THE USUAL DAYS OF RIZAL IN ATENEO WHERE HE SPEND HIS
TIME READING WITH HIS FELLOW STUDENTS, AN ACCIDENT
HAPPENED WHICH REVEALS THE HEROES “RESIGNATION TO PAIN AND
FOR GIVENESS”. ONE DAY DURING A HEATED QUARREL BETWEEN
MANZANO AND LESACA, RIZAL WAS ACCIDENTALLY HIT BY A BOOK
WHICH REQUIRED HIM TO UNDERGO TREATMENT FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
SUR PRISINGLY, HE DID NOT RAISE A CRY OF PROTEST AND CONTINUE
ATTENDING HIS CLASSES AFTER THE TREATMENT WITHOUT A FEELING
OF BITTERNESS TOWARDS THE GUILTY PARTY.  

ANOTHER ANECDOTE ON RIZAL, THE ATENEAN WAS RELATED BY


MANUEL XERES BURGOS. THIS ANECDOTES ILLUSTRATES RIZAL’S
PREDILECTION TO HELP THE HELPLESS AT THE RISK OF HIS OW N LIFE.
ON A SUM MER TIME A YOUNG ATENEAN NAMED JULIO MELIZA WAS
CRYING FOR HIS KITE WHICH WAS CAUGHT BY THE VINES ON THE
BELFRY OF THE MANILA CATHEDRAL. THE YOUNG JOSE RIZAL
CLAIMED THE PICK OF THE CATHEDRAL TO HELP THE HELPLESS BOY
GET HIS LOST KITE.

Mother’s opposition to higher education


 – after graduating his bachelors degree in Ateneo
Rizal with the influence of his father wanted to
pursue his higher education in University of Santo
Tomas. However, because of the horror that
happened to the three matyrs or the GOMBURZ
which beheaded by the Spaniard, his mother
opposed him to acquire higher education in Manila

RIZAL IS STUDYING IN SANTO TOMAS, HE ALSO STUDIES
VOCATIONAL COURSES IN ATENEO SPECIFICALLY IN
SURVEYING. WHERE HE ACTUALLY EXCEL LED AND EARNED A
GOLD MEDAL IN AGR ICULT UR E AND TOPOGR APHY.

WHICH WAS STAYED BY THE ATENEANS ON DECEMBER 8. 1880  
IN THE SAME YEAR 1880 HE WROTE A SONNET ENTITLED A FILIPINOS FOR THE ALBUM THE SOCIETY OF
SCULPTORS 
THE YEAR BEFORE 1879 HE COMPOSED A POEM ENTITLED ABD-EL-AZIS MAHOMA, WHICH WAS DECLAIMED
BY AN ATENEAN MANUEL FERNANDEZ  
IN A YEAR 1881 HE COMPOSED A POEM ENTITLED AL.M.R.P PABLO RAMON. HE WROTE THIS POEM AS AN
EXPRESSION OF AFFECTION TO FATHER PABLO RAMON  

Rizal visit to pikil and pagsanjan-   May 1881, Jose, along


with his sisters Saturnina, Maria, and Trinidad and female
friends went on a pilgrimage to Pakil, famous shrine of the
Birhen Maria de los Dolores. 
She was skillful in playing the harp at the Regalado home
Rizal and his party then went to Pagsanjan for two reasons

• Rizal puts premium on the importance of
Religion which remains vital in the life of Filipino
People even in the contemporary times; 
• Rizal romanticized the significant contribution of
the youth during Spanish era the same as how we
vitalized youth's participation in the contemporary
Philippines , intensified by the 1987 Constitution ; 
• Rizal's patriotism and nationalism were
succeeded by today's youth generation •Hence,
force or strict education is now contained due to
various Children's Protection Act.
ON THE CONCEPT OF
SIGNIFICANCE
 • Generally, the life and works of Rizal is undebatablly significant up to the
contemporary times. His thought about Education, role of the youth, religion,
the concept of nationalism and patriotism should be treated with utmost
significance.
* The life and works of Rizal depicts the struggle of the past and highlight  the
chance of the future. He give inspiration for the youth to speak up and do
what is right regardless of any odds. 
"stand for what is right even it means standing Alone"
