HISTORY OF SIWES
It was established in the year 1973 with the aim of improving the
standard of education geared towards technological advancement.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COMPANY
Gauze Pharmaceuticals and Laboratories, a production company
producing varieties of drugs, potable water and bar soap was
established in 1992.
In the year 2003, more products were registered, and today, the

After mixing, the white suspension was sieved to remove any debris
from the raw material and then poured into the production tank, and
about 2/3 of water was then added into the production tank.
Then the sample was taken from the base tap of the production tank to
the quality assurance unit for examination to confirm satisfactory
product formation, when satisfied stop the stirring and call for quality
test on the sample.

MECHANISM OF ACTIONS OF THE ACTIVE
PHARMACEUTICAL INGREDIENTS (API)
• Mechanism of Action of Magnesium Trisilicate
The gelatinous silicon dioxide, formed by the reaction of
magnesium trisilicate with gastric contents is said to protect the
ulcerated mucosal surfaces and favor healing.
• Mechanism of Action of Light Magnesium Carbonate
It reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach to form
carbon(iv)oxide and magnesium chloride thus neutralizing
excess acid in the stomach.
• Mechanism of Action of Sodium bicarbonate
Sodium bicarbonate acts as an antacid and reacts chemically to
neutralize or buffer existing quantities of stomach acid but has
no direct effect on its output. This action result in increased PH
value of stomach contents, thus providing relief of hyperacidity 10
symptoms.

Relevance of biochemistry to pharmaceutical industry
• Drug Constitution: Biochemistry gives an idea of the constitution
of the drug, its chances of degradation with varying temperature
etc. How modification in the medicinal chemistry helps improve
efficiency, minimize side effects etc.
• The half life and Drug storage: This is a test done on biochemical
drugs to know how long a drug is stable when kept at so and so
temperature. For example many enzymes, hormones are stored for
dispensing. These get deteriorated over time due to temperature or
oxidation, contamination and also due to improper storage.
• Drug metabolism: It also gives an idea of how drug molecules are
metabolized by many biochemical reactions in presence of
enzymes. This helps to avoid drugs which have poor metabolism or
those with excessive side effects from being prescribed or
dispensed to the patient. 13
