What are Batten Boards?

o “Boards” and “Batten” are two Different Components.

o The “board” is a smooth board that is applied to the wall first.
o The “batten” are trim pieces that are added to the top of the boards with
other vertical and horizontal pieces as decorative accents.
o The board and batten style is often used for wainscoting, which is why
these two terms are sometimes used interchangeably.

Advantages of Batten Boards

o Board and batten provide a protective barrier that helps protect your
home from water damage, rot, etc.
o Board and batten are a great choice in climates where the weather can
be harsh. It’s been known to withstand hurricanes, high winds, heavy
rainstorms, etc.
o The design also provides an insulation barrier that helps prevent
extreme temperatures from getting into your home.
o If properly installed and taken care of, board and batten can last
several years or even decades.

Disadvantages of Batten Boards

o Board and batten can be expensive, especially when you add the many
labor hours that go into the installation.
o If a small piece of board and batten siding gets damaged, you can’t just
pop it back in place like with vinyl or other types of wall coverings.
Depending on the extent of the damage, there might need to be an
entire replacement job which will add to your expenses later on
o This type of siding material may change shape after a few years in
some instances, which will cause difficulty with replacement or repair
options.

What are Lamin Boards?

o A veneered wood consisting of a core of parallel sheets cemented

together and faced with plies with the grain of the latter usually at right
angles to that of the core.
o They can be obtained in the following thickness 9mm, 11mm, 12mm,
17mm, 18mm, & 25mm.
o Also they can be obtained in Sizes - 9 x 6, 9 x 3, 8 x 6, 8 x 4, 8 x 3, 6 x
4, 6 x 3 ( in Feet)

Advantages of Lamin Boards

o Lamin board is used in places where you need to tough material to

hold up weight, such as shelves.
o Lamin sheet is easy to work with. It is however much more expensive
than chip board.
o Lamin Board provides good Strength and Durability.
o Lamin Board has a Life Span of approximately 5-10 years if applied
and used properly.

Disadvantages of Lamin Boards

o Due to structure of the Lamin sheet you get a lot of waste pieces.
o If the batten used in the core is distorted, there might be holes inside
the sheet. These holes don’t have a big impact on the strength of the
sheet but they can make attaching screws and such more difficult.
o The veneer surface might crack in time and make cracks in the polish
or paint.

o Lamin Board Comes in a single size where the size of splinters is

8mm.
o If the size of splinters is 25mm then they are said to be Blockboards.
o The price of 8mm splinters Lamin board is around 25 to 35 Rs per
square feet.
