Addressing an Envelope

 If you turn the envelope to the


back side it should look like this:
◦ You always need to check this to make
sure you have the envelope right side
up.
 When you put a letter in the
envelope you should make sure it
is facing you.
◦ When someone receives your letter,
the front will be facing them when
they take it out.
 Put the delivery address,
return address, and stamp
go on the same side of the
envelope.

 Make sure the envelope is


turned so that the long edge
is located at the top and
bottom and the short edges
are on the sides.
Where do the addresses go?
 The return address should be written in the upper left corner
 The return address is who is sending the letter.

◦ If you are the one sending a letter you write your own address.
 The delivery address goes in the center of the envelope.
 The delivery address is the address of where the envelope is

going.

Stamps
 Put the stamp in the upper-right corner.
 If you are sending a letter in the U.S.,
typically you will only need one stamp (50
cents).
 If you are sending a letter outside of the U.S.
or if it weighs more than a standard letter
you may need more stamps.
 To find out how many stamps/ how much
you need for letters go to stamps.com or go
to your local post office.
 Stamps are marked when the post office
delivers them so that they cannot be re-used
Using abbreviations
 What are abbreviations?
 You can use abbreviations for

streets (ST, BLVD, RD, etc.)


 Use standard abbreviations for

states (SC)
 Type or use a pen to address the

envelope.
 Why would you not want to use

a pencil?

Buying Stamps
 Stamps can be bought individually in sheets, or
in rolls
◦ These are all different amounts of stamps
 The post office is the most common place to buy
stamps but you can also go other places too:
◦ Grocery Stores
◦ Online at usps.gov
◦ Some ATMS
◦ Office Supply Stores
 Stamps now cost $0.49 each
 How would we find the cost of a sheet of stamps

if it is 20 stamps?
