CHANGES IN MATTER

#ItMattersToMe
They are MATTER.

In any point in time,

they may CHANGE.
Matter can break,
rip, tear, fold, melt,
freeze, burn, boil,
rot or decompose.
Changes in Matter
1. Physical change

2. Chemical change
A change in the form of a
material.
Physical It includes changes in
change size, shape, temperature,
volume and phase of
matter
Phase
A change in the phase of
Changes matter, occurs when heat
in is either absorbed or
released by an object
Materials
Liquefaction or Melting

Occurs when a solid

turns into liquid
Vaporization
Occurs when a liquid, such as
water, absorbed heat until the
particles of matter become
energetic enough to escape as a
gas.
Sublimination
Occurs when, upon the application
of heat, a solid transform directly
into a gaseous state without passing
through a liquid state.
Condensation
Occurs when water vapor – the
gaseous form of water – gives of
heat, allowing it to change into its
liquid state.
Solidification or Freezing
Occurs when liquid turns into solid.
When water is placed under low
temperature, water particles slow down
and eventually begin to assume fixed
positions, giving off heat process
Deposition
It happens when a gaseous matter
changes directly into a solid when heat is
removed without passing through a
liquid phase.
Chemical change
It is the result of Chemical Reaction.
A chemical reaction takes place when
one or more substances change to
form one or more new substances.
Indicators of CHEMICAL change

1. production of new detectable substance

2. production of precipitate
3. changes in temperature production of light
4. change in color or odor.
Reactivity
Refers to the ability of a material to react with
another material.
Substance or materials that undergo chemical
change are called REACTANTS.
The new substance or materials produced at the
end of the reaction are called PRODUCTs.
Flammability
Refers to the ability
of a substance to be
set on fire.
Evidence of Chemical Change
Foaming/Fizzing
Formation of Precipitate
Change in Smell
Production of heat and light
