PROCESS AND LANDFORMS ALONG

TRANSFORM FAULT BOUNDARY

GRADE 10 DEMURE
WHATS NEW:

 TRANSFORM FAULT BOUNDARY?

*A transform fault or transform boundary is a fault along the plate boundary where the motion is
predominantly horizontal. It ends abruptly where it connect to another transform, a spreading ridge, or a subduction
zone.
*The SAN ANDREAS FAULT and QUEEN CHARLOTTE FAULT are transform plate boundaries developing
where the pacific plate moves northward past the NORTH AMERICAN PLATE. The SAN ANDREAS FAULT is just
one of several fault that accommodate the transform motion between the PACIFIC and NORTH AMIRECAN plates.
WHAT IS IT

FAULTLINE?
*A faultline is a long crack in the surface of the earth. Earthquakes
usually occur along the fault line. A fault line is a system or process is
an area of it that seems weak and likely to cause problems or failure.
WHATS MORE

Q1:ARE YOU AWARE OF THE DIFFERENT PLACES ALONG THE WEST VALLEY FAULT?
ANS:YES,I’AM AWARE OF SOME OF THE PLACE ALONG THE WEST VALLY FAULT.
THE WEST VALLEY FAULT IS AN ACTIVE FAULTLINE THAT RUNS THROUGH SEVERAL
PROVINCES IN THE PHILIPPINES, INCLUDING RIZAL, METRO MANILA, BULACAN,
CAVITE, AND LAGUNA. SOME AREAS THAT ARE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE
FAULTLINE INCLUDE MARIKINA CITY AND TAGUIG CITY. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR
RESIDENTS IN THESE TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS FOR SEISMIC ACTIVITIES.
Q2: WHAT CAN YOU ADVISE A FRIEND WHO RESIDES IN A PLACE TRAVERSED BY THE
FAULT?
ANS:LIVING IN AN AREAS PRONE TO EARTHQUAKE CAN BE A CHALLENG,BUT
THERE ARE THE STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO STAY SAFE.HERE ARE FEW TIPS TO SHARE
WITH YOUR FRIENDS:
TIPS TO STAY SAFE
1.Be Prepared -Create an emergency kit with essential supplies
like food, water, flashlight, buttieries, and fist
aid supplies. Make sure to have a plan in place
for how to communicate and reconnect with
family members during and after earthquake.

2.Secure your home -Identify and fix any potential hazards in your
home, such as unsecured heavy items
(furniture , appliances)that could fall and cause
injury during an earthquake .

3. Educate yourself -Learn about signs of an impending

earthquake , such as ground shaking, strange
sounds, and animals behaving unsually. Also,
know the safe spots in each room, such as under
sturdy furniture or against an interior wall, away
from windows.

REMEMBER, IT’S IMPORTANT TO STAY
CALM DURING AN EARTHQUAKE. DROP
TO THE GROUND,TAKE COVER , AND
HOLD ON UNTIL THE SHAKING STOPS

Q3: IF YOU HAVE STRONG, STURDY FURNITURE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE, CAN YOU USE
THEM TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FALLING OBJECTS ONCE THE QUAKE
STRIKES?
ANS:USING STURDY FUNITURE AS A FORM OF PROTECTION DURING AN
EARTHQUAKE IS NOT RECOMMENDED. WHILE IT MAY SEEM LIKE A
GOOD IDEA, HIDING UNDER FURNITURE DURING AN EARTHQUAKE
CAN ACTUALLY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY. FURNITURE CAN
SHIFT OR COLLAPSE DURING SHAKING, POTENTIALLY CAUSING
MORE HARM THAN IF YOU WERE TO TAKE COVER IN A SAFER
