• What is Line Art?
• Instead of being a distinct art
trend, line art is the fundamental
building block of most artistic
expression. It can be referred to as
the fundamental element of art,
the fundamental building piece
that has influenced the formal
treatises and canonical
trajectories of both figuration and
abstraction.
• A line can create shapes, texture and variety in art depending on
how and with which form its being used. A line can become deeper
and denser depending on the way its being used.
• 2 main kinds: Real & Implied
-> Real lines are normal lines that are usually drawn and Implied
lines are the ones with variations such as color, value, dotted, etc.
A simple line can easily create a
sense of depth in a painting;
A line is a straight path in a plane that goes on mostly depending on its weigh
forever in opposite directions. i.e. the thickness.
Thick/Heavy lines are used to
show objects coming forward &
to darken/prominent objects
where as, Thin/Light lines are
used to depict object going
backwards.
These types of lines Vertical Lines: Create a sense of growth
are used to convey Horizontal Lines- Mostly used in relaxing paintings to depict peace and
emotions as well.

Diagonal Line- Create a sense of Tension at the edges of an artwork
There are 5 main types of lines in art. Vertical lines, Spiral Lines- Elegant and create a sense of an “infinity moment”
horizontal lines, diagonal lines, zigzag lines, and curved Parallel Lines- Create excitement
lines. Other types of lines are simply different ZigZag Lines- Makes work exciting!
