The Simple Tenses of Verbs
PRESENT TENSE
 tells what is going on right now. The present
form shows action or a state of being that is
occurring now, that is generally true, or that
is always happening.
PRESENT TENSE
The simple present is used with adverbs like:
always often
usually sometimes
rarely everyday

To form the Simple Present Tense, we add -s or –es

for a singular subject. The verb is in the base or
simple form if the subject is plural.
Present Tense Example:

Sherry sings our national anthem.

They sing the national antem.

The Simple Tenses of Verbs
PAST TENSE
 tells you what happened before the present
time.
PAST TENSE
The simple past tense is used with the following
words:
yesterday last night last week

a month ago two years ago

To form the Simple Past Tense, we add –d or –

ed.
Past Tense Example:

We played at the park yesterday.

I visited my sister last night.

The Simple Tenses of Verbs
FUTURE TENSE
 talks about what has not happened yet or what will
happen in the future. This simple future tense is the
only one that always needs helping verbs to express
meaning.
FUTURE TENSE

The simple future tense is used with the following

words:
tomorrow in future year
next month this week
someday

To form the Simple Future Tense we add will with

the base or simple form of the verb.
Future Tense Example:

We will watch a movie tomorrow.

She will clean her room this week.

The three simple tenses of verbs are present tense, past tense
