Kytayiv park
Incredible park
Just 9 km south of Khreschatyk, an incredible park that impresses with its nature
and amazing lakes - Kytaivo. This place has a very powerful energy and is one
of the most favorite places of rest for the people of Kyiv. And this is not
surprising, because here on the territory of almost 62 hectares is located the
Kytayivo archaeological complex, which since 2001 has been recognized as a
historical monument of national importance
Theory of the name

The name of the area probably comes from the Turkic word "china" - fortress. But there is
also a legend, which claims that Andriy Bogolyubsky, grandson of Volodymyr
Monomakh, had his country residence on the hillfort. The legend arose thanks to a
document forged in the 16th century - the only document that indicates that the second
(non-Christian) name of the prince was the name "China".
The bad times
After the Bolshevik occupation of Ukraine at the beginning of the 20th century,
the temples remained active, but the territory itself was taken from the
monastery. As in most other religious buildings of that time, warehouses of
agricultural products were located here. And from the beginning of the
occupation of Kyiv in 1941 and during the Second World War, the rest of the
church buildings were also destroyed by bombings.
Kytayivo is a truly amazing place, which has preserved monuments of ancient
culture, which testify that our ancestors lived here for 5 thousand years. Some of
them are hidden in the ground and are still known only through legends and
versions of archaeologists. Most of these antiquities are still waiting for their
time.
