    History
    Dorohoi used to
    be a market for
    the timber and
    farm products of
    the north
    Moldavian
    highlands;
    merchants from
    the neighboring
    states flocked to
    its great fair,
    held on the 12 of
    June.
    The population of
    Dorohoi is about
    32.000 people.
    The settlement was
    first mentioned in
    documents in 1408.
    Dorohoi was bombed
    by the Russians
    during The First
    World War .
    Geography
    Dorohoi, the
    residence of the
    former county with
    the same name, is
    located in the
    northwestern part of
    the Upper Moldavian
    Plain, in Botoșani
    County, at the
    contact of the Upper
    Jijia Plain with the
    Bour Hills. From a
    geographical point of
    view, the city is
    northeast of Romania,
    in the contact area
    between the high
    hills region.
    Important
    sights in
    Dorohoi
    The Princely Church
    Complex is an
    archaeological
    monument in Dorohoi
    municipality, of a
    national and
    universal value. It
    is included in the
    UNESCO patrimony.
    “Saint Nicholas”
    Church is the oldest
    architectural
    monument in the
    municipality, dating
    from 1495. It was
    founded by the prince
    Ștefan Cel Mare, the
    protector of Moldova.
    George Enescu’s
    Memorial Museum
    The museum is organized
    in the house of the
    composer's father,
    Costache Enescu, a house
    where George Enescu
    (1881 - 1955) lived for
    nine years, and has 6
    rooms.
    George Enescu (b. August
    19, 1881, George Enescu
    - d. May 4, 1955, Paris,
    France) was a Romanian
    composer, violinist,
    pedagogue, pianist and
    conductor. He is
    considered the most
    important Romanian
    musician
    The Museum
    of Natural
    Sciences
    The Museum of
    Natural
    Sciences is a
    county museum
    in Dorohoi. The
    museum has rich
    collections of
    insects,butterf
    lies, minerals,
    birds, etc.
    Personalities
    1.Octavian Cotescu (b.
    February 14, 1931, Dorohoi
    - d. August 22, 1985,
    Bucharest) was a
    successful Romanian
    actor , from the golden
    generation.

    2.Theodor V. Ionescu

    (b. February 8, 1899,


    Dorohoi, Botoșani County -
    d. November 6, 1988,
    Bucharest) was a Romanian
    physicist and inventor.You
    will see the others when
    you visit our wonderful
    town.
