PLATFORM OVERVIEW

COMPANY PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL

Differences between VM and Docker/Containers
• VM: Application VM instantiated on CVIM/OpenStack – It is like a entire computing
machine including OS
• Container: Container/mircro service based application instantiated on Robin platform
– Only application and minimum set of library, etc. would be contained and built on docker engine
platform
– Robin will provide the auto instantiation, network and storage service in K8s based architecture

General benefit of container based deployment
• Less system resource is required than virtual machine
• Application SW is decoupled from OS . OS overhead is reduced
• Containers are lightweight, portable, scalable and secure
• Provide greater efficiency
• Microservice base upgradation, enhancement , healing, etc

Kubernetes = K8s
 Kubernetes is container orchestrator
 A Kubernetes cluster consists of a set of worker machines, called nodes.
 Cluster consists of master node and set of worker nodes. sometimes only master
can act as cluster
 In general, the worker node(s) host the Pods (Point of Delivery) that are the
components of the application workload – vDU/vCU application deployed in Pods
 Robin.io is providing Kubernetes base container platform , noted as Robin
platform Worker node
