Listen and read the dialogue. Pay attention to the
highlighted parts.

Practise introducing a friend to your teacher.


Read and tick the questions you think are suitable to ask

Grammar
The present simple
We use the present simple to talk about actions or events that often happen or
are fixed.
Form Example

S + V_inf + … . We usually go to school by bus.

S + don’t + V_inf + … . I don’t like school lunch very much.


I/you/we/they
Do + S + V_inf + … ? Do they live near here?

W/H + do + S + V_inf + … ? What do you often do after school?


The present simple
We use the present simple to talk about actions or events that often happen or
are fixed.
Form Example

S + V(s/es) + … . She usually goes to school by bus.

S + doesn’t + V_inf + … . He doesn’t like school lunch very much.

He/she/it
Does + S + V_inf + … ? Does it run near here?

W/H + does + S + V_inf + … ? What does Mary often do after school?


The present simple

1. If a verb ends with –s, –sh, –ch, –x, -o or –z, you add –es.
2. If a verb ends with a consonant and –y, you replace –y by –ies.
3. For almost all other verbs, add –s.
Example:
- Mina usually watches TV in the evening.
- Tim flies to London twice a year.

Adverbs of frequency

always

We use adverbs of frequency to show how often something usually


happens.
We often use them with the present simple.
We usually place the adverb of frequency before the main sometimes
verb or after the verb to be.
rarely
Example:
- Tom usually takes the bus home. never
- They are often late for school.
Put the adverb in brackets in the correct place in each
sentence.
1. I remember to do my homework. (always)
