WHAT IS A JOB APPLICATION
LETTER ?

A Job Application Letter is a short document that is typically sent together with a
resume, curriculum vitae, portfolio, or other important attachments in a job
application. It's main purpose is to highlight details that are relevant to a job and
that can improve a candidate’s chances of getting selected.

1. That you would like to apply to a job


2. Where you found out about the job
3. Why you would like to do this job
4. Why you are qualified to do this job
5. You can provide more information if necessary
6. When you would be available for interview

HOW TO A FORMAT JOB APPLICATION
LETTER ?
• Date
This goes on the top left corner of your page. It doesn’t have to follow any specific date format, so you can choose
one you’re comfortable using.

• Contact information
On a hard copy, you will need to include a more detailed version of your contact information. This goes below the
date and should look like this :
Your Name Contact number
Home address Email address
City, State, zip code

Below this information is where the hiring manager’s information goes, which should look like this :

Manager’s Name
Designation
Company Name
Office address
City, State, zip code

Opening salutation
* If you know the name of the referent person
Ex : Dear Mr Smith
* If you don't know the name of the person
Ex : Dear Sirs
Dear Sir or Modom

• Opening
This section is where you give a brief description of yourself. Highlight relevant skills, accomplishments,
and experiences that show you are a high-value candidate. Keep this section no longer than one paragraph with
only two to three short sentences in all. If you have plenty of relevant accomplishments, pick only the best
and most recent. You can elaborate on your other experiences during the interview.

• Body
• First paragraph
The title of the position appned, the reasons for being a good fit for the position

• Second paragraph
A brief description of the aplicant's background that is related to the job requirements for the position
applied for

• Last paragraph
Positive and polite close

• Closing
End your cover letter with a closing section where you can sign off using professional closings, such as :

• Sincerely,
• Best,
• Respectfully

The closing section is also where you may reiterate your interest in the company or a specific position.
