 WHAT ARE DISASTERS ?WHAT ARE THE
TYPES OF DISASTERS?
• A “DISASTER” is a destructive event that occurs
suddenly and involves loss of life and property and
causes damage,ecological disruption,deterioration
of health and health services on a scale , sufficient to
warrant an extraordinary response from outside the
affected community or area.

• Mainly there are 2 types of disasters that are:


 NATURAL DISASTERS(caused by natural factor)
{eg:earthquakes,flood,cyclones,epidemics etc.}
 MAN MADE DISASTERS(caused by human
activities)
{eg:wars,nuclear accidents,oil spills,mine fires etc.}

 WHAT IS DISASTER MANAGEMENT CYCLE?
• The disaster management cycle illustrates the ongoing
process by which government, worldwide organisations,
civil society plan for and reduce the impact of disasters.
• The disaster management cycle is a series of steps that
organizations and individuals use to prepare, contain and
mitigate unexpected events.
• A disaster management cycle also helps those who
experience disasters, helping them rebuild, regroup and
recover.

 PREVENTION AND MITIGATION OF FIRE in high rise buildings in
INDIA
• Definition: - As per National Building Code of India-2016, a
buildings 15m and above in height (irrespective of its
occupancy) is considered as High Rise Buildings.
• Always keep match-sticks away from children.
• Do not light Incense sticks near curtains.Do not store
inflammable material inside building.
• Do not make unauthorized electrical connections and
overloading of electrical appliances.  Do not forget to switch-
off the electrical mains and to close the window shutters before
leaving your home.
• Do not allow iron or similar appliances plugged in absence.
• Do not store paint, varnish etc. In large quantities.Do not store
LPG in more than required quantity.Use cotton apron while
cooking.
