 What is a PLN?
● A Professional Learning Network
(PLN) is a group of individuals that
people learn from. This may include
peers, supervisors, experts, and other
professionals.

● All PLNs are unique to the individual

that is participating in it.

 Investigation
In the first section, I will investigate the current
professional learning networks at Effingham
College & Career Academy (ECCA) and the
Effingham County School District (ECSD) and
what PLNs are currently recommended by
ECCA and ECSD.

 ECCA PLN
● Effingham College & Career Academy (ECCA) has 3
different Professional Learning Networks they support.

● The PLN at the school are called Data Teams, STEM PLC,
and Peer Strategies PLC.

● All certified staff members participate in all three of the PLC

at the school.

 ECCA PLN Continued
● The data PLN at ECCA focuses on the analysis of student
data and performance to inform instruction in a subject
between different instructors and classes. This PLN is lead by
the ECCA principal.

● The STEM PLN at ECCA purpose is to identify key issues

and design curriculum that are needed for the
implementation of STEM. This PLN is lead by the ECCA
STEM Facilitator.

● The Peer PLN at ECCA is an opportunity for staff to learn

from each other by sharing from their toolbox to each other.

This PLN is lead by the ECCA AP/Information Specialist.

 ECCA PLN Goals
1. PL Focus 1: Academic Goal to increase outcomes on various
assessments by teacher (CIA, LEOCT, EOC, AP, EOPA)

2. PL Focus 2: STEM Goal to integrate content across other

disciplines using “The Process”

3. PL Focus 3: SEL Goal equitable environment that empowers

all students to achieve their potential.

 ECSD PLNs
● Effingham County School District does not have a written
out plan for professional learning.

● The goal of the district is to make sure all opportunities they

supply undergird the district’s overall improvement plan in
keeping with the mission statement of the county.

● The district’s mission statement is “Make every moment

count because every student matters.”

(Encompass/mission & vision)

 ECSD PLNs
● Since the county does not have a written plan, i looked at
the Professional Learning Calendar to gather information
about opportunities the district provides.

● Most of the training opportunities provided by the district

are for new elementary, middle school, and high school
teachers.

● The district is offering several sessions that deal with

visible learning which is a major priority initiative within

 Recommended PLNs
● Though ECCA and ECSD have no formal list of
recommended professional learning networks, certain
department and programs are encouraged to be active
participants in different PLNs.

● Advanced Placement teachers are encouraged to participate

in AP workshops.

● CTAE teachers are members of the Georgia Association of

Career and Technical Educators.

● The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)
is a group of global educators who believe in the power of
technology to transform education.

● ISTE’s Vision:
○ ISTE’s vision is that education innovators are supported in
reimagining and redesigning learning with a focus on using
technology to create transformational and equitable
experiences for learners.

● ISTE’s Mission

 Joining ISTE
● My plan is to join the ISTE Professional Learning Network this semester.

● The ISTE Professional Learning Network gives the user access to forms that cover trends
in edtech including topics such as computational thinking, Digital Citizenship, STEAM,
Teacher Education, and more.

 My GOAL
● My goal is to submit the required documentation and join the ISTE Professional Learning
Network..

● I want to become an active member of the community by utilizing the resources to help
develop my computer science courses at ECCA during the remainder of this school year
which supports ECCA’s goal of increasing outcomes on assessments by teachers.

● I will know I have successfully accomplished my goal by utilizing ISTE PLN resources in
my classroom..
