A QUALITATIVE STUDY ON TIME

MANAGEMENT IN PUBLIC
ADMINISTRATION STUDENT DURING
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
Background of the Study

Time management is a crucial aspect for students during the OJT (On-the-Job
Training). It involves effectively allocating and prioritizing time for different tasks
and responsibility. Poor time management can lead to stress, missed deadlines, and
subpar performance.

According to Brigitte, Claessens, Eerde, & Rutte, (2015), Time management plays a
vital role in improving student performance. Each and every student should have
time management ability which includes setting goals& priorities, using time
management mechanism and being organized in using time. Here time management
is only possible through self-motivation, performance and ability.
On his column “Value Point” that with proper time management, each person may
significantly enrich his life and actualize himself more effective use time, we can be
confident in the thought we have committed. Managing time it can be stated that the
efficient use of time and the proper use of time and the proper use of time on study
material contribute greatly to successful experience and to maintain achievements
that without these qualities, even the most capable student would experience
considerable frustrations and difficulties in carrying out different activities and task
(Padua, 2018)
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Many individuals struggle with managing their time effectively, resulting in increased
stress levels, missed deadlines, reduced productivity, and decreased overall satisfaction
with their personal and tasks in schools. Despite the availability of numerous time
management tools and techniques, individuals continue to struggle with effectively
prioritizing their tasks, avoiding distractions, and balancing competing demands on their
time. As a result, there is a need for effective strategies to improve time management
skills and help individuals achieve greater control over their schedules and ultimately
achieve their OJT(On-the-job training).

1. What are the hurdles of the students in managing their

time?

2. Does time management has an effect to the student?

3. Does time management has an impact on the

students work performance?
Theoretical Framework

This study is postulate to the Pickle Jay Theory (2017) by Stephen Covey. He
explain that Pickle Jar Theory is a time management solution for simple and actual
work. Imagine a pickle jar, one of those huge jars that need to fit in lots of thick and
bulky pickles. This imagine is the start of your new time management strategy. Even
if you struggle to keep a schedule during your translation work, or often fall to meet
deadlines this strategy will help you succeed. Think of that jar, and then fill it up with
rocks. Put as many rock as possible and then put in some smaller stones so they fill
up the gaps that and left. The add in some sand so that there would be no air left and
complete the jar with water. This is how each day should be when you take an empty
pickle jar and fill with rock, it appears to be full, until you fill it with gravel. The smaller
granules fill the cracks between the rocks, and you can still in some sand, and then
water. But go about it on the other way and water or sand to the bottle first, and you
won’t be able to get less important work done in a spaces between and after major
projects or tasks.
Significance of the Study

This would be informative for the following individual because it will provide some
information about the time management during On the Job Training(OJT).

Instructor- the one who able to accommodate the students by knowing what are the
struggles that student encounter during their OJT. They can be able to monitor their
student and address the right and needed assessment to help them achieve better.

Parents- Parents would also be the beneficiary of this study for they are the ones who
will guide their children to manage their time.

Students- Student would be more beneficial for this will help them to have a good
understanding and evaluation of their selves. If they have chosen decision that is
suitable for them and their time management.

Future Researcher– This study would definItely be beneficial for the future researchers
for this will give them some information and guidance for their future study.
Purpose of the Study

One of the problem among student nowadays are about time management. The aim of this
study is to find out how the student managing their time as they have a on training job, and
could help them lessen this problem.

Methodology

This chapter present the research design, research instrument role of the research and the
role of the researchers in the study.

Research Design

This study is a qualitative research that employed descriptive method which is use to
understand the problem. An interview schedule is use gathered appropriate and important
data. For the descriptive method gathered data were organized using data matrix to
determine the title.
Procedure how to conduct the study

The following steps were followed in gathering data.

Seek Permission to Conduct the Study. The researchers asked permission

from the College President to conduct a study.

Administering the Interview Schedule. The researchers formulated a research

made interview schedule. The instrument was presented to the panelist during
the outline presentation for the improvement of its content. All the content of the
interview guide were communicated the respondents prior to the interview proper.

Coding the Interview Result. The researchers translated all the responses and
subjected to Data Matrix using profile Matrix to organize the responses and for
easy analysis.
