CHEMICAL

ENERGY
Michelle Mendeja
Chemical energy is stored in molecules of
matter. It is formed by releasing stored energy
in substance like photosynthesis in green plants,
oxidation of food in the body, burning of fossils
fuels, and combining chemicals like acids, water,
oxygen, and other substances. The stored
chemical energy of an object is released when it
undergoes chemical change.
Food contains chemical energy. Food comes from
plants and animals. Plants and animals possess
chemical energy. During photosynthesis, plants
use water and carbon dioxide with the aid of
sunlight. Reactions take place inside the plant
cells during the process until glucose and oxygen
are produced. Glucose is stored as a chemical
energy in the plants’ leaves, stems, and roots.
When people eat plants, the chemical energy is
turned into energy of the body.
Fuels such as gasoline, firewood, coal and
petroleum contain chemical energy. When burned,
the chemical energy is released in the form of heat
and light. Gasoline and other fuels are used to run
machines.
Dry cell contains chemical energy. The
chemical energy of a dry cell is turned into
light when put in a flashlight.
The chemical energy of the firecrackers is
released producing light and
sound.Chemists make use of molecule
combination or association to form another
substance. The new substances may be used
in home and industries.
