RATIO
AND
PROPORTION
Objectives
Define ratio and proportion in an understandable
way
A

B Appy ratio and proportion in a real-life situation

value the importance of ratio and proportion in a

real-life situation
C
Ratio
Is the quantitative relation between two amounts
showing the number of times one value contains or
is contained within the other.
Antecedent and
Consequent
-

The first quantity of the ratio is called antecedent whereas

the second quantity of the ratio is called consequent. For
example- If there is a ratio of m:n, m is termed as antecedent
or first term and n is termed as consequent or second term.
Example: You have 3 apples and 4 lemons

What is the ratio of apples to lemons?

What is the ratio of lemons to apples?

What is the ratio of apples to total fruit?

What is the ratio of lemons to total fruit?

Equivalent Ratio
Are the ratios that make the same comparison of
Numbers
PROPORTION
The proportion math definition is when two ratios
or fractions are equal to each other.
Means and Extremes
MEANS: The proportion between two terms of a ratio is
calculated by taking the square root of the product of
two quantities in a ratio.

EXTREMES: The extremes are the values of the

proportion that are furthest apart when written in ratio
form using a colon.
ACTIVITY
Instruction:
1. The class will be divided into three groups. Then each group will be
further divided into three but the number of the members shouldn’t
be equal

2. The teacher will give you an envelope that has candy inside.

3. The candy will be distributed to the members of the group

4. After distributing the candies, you are going to present how much
candy every student has.
Instruction:

5. Explain if the distribution of candies is

proportional or not proportional.

6. I’ll give you 15 minutes to finish your task.
