STATISTICS AND

PROBABILITY
SECOND SEMESTER MIDTERM/3RD QUARTER
QUESTION?

How the sampling distribution helps to you, as a Grade 11

student, directly? What skills will it improve? How do you
relate it in your own life?
EXAMPLE?
Example 1: Drawing Three Hearts Without Replacement
We have a standard deck of 52 playing cards. Find the probability of
drawing three hearts consecutively without putting the cards back in the
deck after each draw.

Step 1: Probability of drawing the first heart ()

Since 13 hearts are there in standard deck cards, the probability of
getting first heart is _________. or 25%
EXAMPLE?
Step 2: Probability of drawing the second heart ()
Since the first heart is drawn, 12 heart cards are remaining and the
standard deck cards is already 51 cards left. Therefore, the probability is
______. or 23.53%

Step 3: Probability of drawing the third heart ()

Since the first and second heart are drawn 11 heart cards are
remaining and the standard deck cards is already 50 cards left. Therefore,
the probability is ____. or 22%
EXAMPLE?
What did you notice to the probabilities of drawing each heart cards?

Now, since three heart cards are need to draw consecutively, what is the
product of the three probabilities?

What is your conclusion?
VARIANCE AND STANDARD DEVIATION OF
THE SAMPLING DISTRIBUTION OF MEANS
WITHOUT REPLACEMENT
Example 2:
A population consists of three numbers (2, 4, 6). Consider all possible samples of
size 2 which can be drawn without replacement from the population.

a. Find the Population Mean

b. Find the Population Variance
c. Find the Population standard Deviation
d. Mean of each sample and the mean of the sampling distribution of means.
e. Variance of the sampling distribution of means
f. Standard deviation of the sampling distribution of the means.
