DEFINING SET OF
INTEGERS
The number line is a line with points and is often
used to illustrate order of numbers, because each point
which is associated with, or represent a number has a
definite location in relation to other points that also
represent other numbers.

Set of Integers The set containing positive


numbers, zero, and negative counting numbers are
subset of integers, denoted by Z.
Z= {... -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3...}
Positive integers can be written without the plus sign.
Negative integers are written with minus sign before the
integers. Zero is neither positive nor negative, hence it is
written without plus and minus sign.
Comparing and Ordering Integers
The use of number line helps in comparing integers. An integer
on the right of a given integer is greater and any other integer on the left
is lesser in value. All negative integers are less than zero, while any
positive integer is greater than zero.

To compare two integers, the following symbols may be used:
