METHODOLOGY
Dust Monitoring
Dust monitoring will be undertaken using an AQM10 Dust Sentry. The instrument will be
mounted on a metal stand securely at approximately 1.5 m above ground breathing level.
The instrument will be set to measure PM10 and TSP concentrations for 1 hour. Zero
calibration and sample flow check will be undertaken at monthly intervals in accordance
with the manufacturer’s calibration procedures.
Wind speed and direction will be measured and recorded during the monitoring event to
provide supplementary information for determining the source of dust.
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
Exhaust Emissions
All equipment utilized for exhaust emissions testing will be calibrated and
operated in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications
(including all necessary pre-test instrument preparation procedures).
The appropriate test program on the smoke meter will be selected. The measuring probe will be inserted
sufficiently into the exhaust pipe to prevent the admission of open air, assuring sampling of exhaust gas
only. The engine will be accelerated again to the maximum RPM within one second then release when
prompted to do by the smoke meter. The sampling probe will be inserted sufficiently into the exhaust
pipe to prevent open air from entering the pipe and ensure that only exhaust gas is sampled.
The tested vehicle passes the test if the reported K-factor is less than the Qatar Standards of 2.44 m-1. If
the first meter reading is more than 2.44 m-1, further accelerations will be required, following meter
prompts, up to a maximum of six accelerations. A pass or fail will be determined based on the outcome
of the last three consecutive tests.

Noise level meter
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
Noise levels will be measured using a Type 1 Sound Level Meter. The sound level meter will be mounted
on a tripod at 1.5 m above ground level. The sound level meter will be set to record the following
parameters for 30 minutes:
Immediately prior to and following each noise measurement, the accuracy of the sound level meter will
be calibrated using an acoustic calibrator. Measurement will be accepted as valid only if the calibration
levels before and after the noise measurement agree to within +/-1.0 dB A. Noise measurement shall not
be undertaken during rain, wind with an average speed exceeding 5 m/s or wind gusts exceeding 10
m/s. Wind speed will be measured using an Anemometer along with the noise monitoring. The noise
data will be assessed and filtered to remove invalid data caused by adverse weather conditions. Any
noise data recorded whilst winds were greater than 5 m/s or during a precipitation event will be ignored.

ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
GROUNDWATER LEVEL MONITORING
Groundwater quality monitoring and assessment include the following steps and
will be undertaken at weekly intervals:
A. Well purging;
B. Well Recovery;
C. Groundwater sampling;
D. Samples analysis.
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
) Well Purging
wells will be purged using an electric groundwater pump prior to sampling to remove
agnant’ groundwater from the well so that samples will be representative of the
rrounding hydro-stratigraphic unit.
abilisation criteria (pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature) will be measured at five minute intervals
ring purging in a container of known volume or flow cell. Groundwater will be purged until three
nsecutive readings are recorded within:
0.05 unit for pH
e pump flow rate will be measured by timing the water flow into a water container of known
ume. Descriptions of the visual and olfactory characteristics of the groundwater will be recorded
ring purging on field record sheets.
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
(B) Well Recovery
Wells that have been purged will be left to recover to within 0.5 m of pre-purging groundwater
level. Following recovery of groundwater levels in the well, sampling will proceed on the
assumption that the groundwater represents inflow from the hydro-stratigraphic unit screened
by the well. In this instance, measurement of stabilisation parameters (pH, DO and temperature)
will proceed to provide a cross check and ensure representative formation water is being collected.
Following well recovery and before the well is sampled, the water level will be measured and
recorded.
Disposable bailers attached to a length of braided nylon twine will be lowered into each well to the
Depth of the screened interval. Bailers will be lowered slowly and with care to avoid excessive
disturbance (aeration) and re-suspension of sediment from the base of the well. Personnel handling
the samples will wear a new pair of disposable latex gloves with each set of samples collected and
new disposable bailer will be used for each well to prevent cross-contamination of groundwater
samples.
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
(D) Sample Analysis
Once collected, groundwater samples will be labelled and stored in ice chilled cooler boxes at 4 oC.
Samples will then be delivered to an accredited laboratory within 24 hours of sampling,
accompanied by Chain of Custody (COC) documentation. Groundwater samples will be analysed
for the following parameters by the accredited laboratory:
Salinity
Electrical conductivity
Boron
Quality Control samples provide information that discounts or potentially identifies errors due to
Possible sources of cross contamination, inconsistencies in sampling, and analytical techniques
used. The QA/QC program for the groundwater monitoring will include the collection of one (1)
blind duplicate sample per week to test the repeatability of analytical results by the laboratory.
Blind samples must be submitted to the laboratory without any indication to the laboratory that
they have been duplicated. A quantitative measure of the accuracy of the analyses results
obtained will be made using a calculated relative percentage difference (RPD) values.
