First day we were briefed about the project and the various works that were going on.

• On the first day the shuttering for

lintel beam of sump and pump room
was completed and concrete was
being poured.
• Concrete was prepared using an self
loading concrete mixer.
Lintel beam: A lintel is a beam placed
across the openings like doors,
windows etc. in buildings to support
the load from the structure above.

constructed for storing water. And
a pump room right next to it.
• The pump room was being
constructed up to the lintel level
by block masonry.
• Then the shuttering for lintel
beam was started.

PCC: It is a mixture of cement, fine

aggregate and coarse aggregate
without reinforcement.

PCC of 100mm thick was laid.

WEEK-2

24
Department of civil engineering
INTERNSHIP / PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

CONTINUED….
After the footing is ready, the column has to be raised.
But it is not possible to shutter all 6 columns and make
sure they are aligned. So the surveyor using a total
station gives points on all 6 footings from where the
column has to start and from where the shuttering has to
be given.

25
Department of civil engineering
INTERNSHIP / PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
CONTINUED….

After the points are given, shuttering is not directly given to the entire
column. Instead first a starter is constructed over that, the column starts.

26
Department of civil engineering
INTERNSHIP / PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

CONTINUED….

• After the starter is ready, shuttering

work starts.
• With help of formwork, the column is
erected up to the plinth beam level.
• M25 grade of concrete was used for
columns.
• Once the concrete is dried, shutter is
removed and curing of column is done.

27
Department of civil engineering
INTERNSHIP / PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

After the column is cured, the soil is
backfilled. And excavation is done for
plinth beam. Even for plinth beam,
PCC is provided. Once the PCC is laid
for the plinth beam, reinforcements
are kept on it. And shuttering is given
for plinth beam

going on, on the other side of the site,
excavation for the fire and sump room
was going on. A Tata Hitachi was used.

● Once the excavation for the trench is done, shuttering

will be carried out and PCC(1:4:8) is laid with a
thickness of 100mm.

● After curing the PCC, reinforcement work is carried out,
● U - shaped bars - #10mm dia @ 150mm c/c
● Straight bars - #8mm dia @200mm c/c
● U - shaped bars and straight bars are run perpendicular to
each other.

• After shuttering the reinforcement

work is carried out for both pump
and sump room. As for drawing the
thickness of the slab is varied,
• For sump room - 200mm thick
• For pump room - 150mm thick
• As for drawing the reinforcement
should be arranged for a two way
slab.

40
Department of civil engineering
INTERNSHIP / PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

• For concreting the slab the RMC

came to the site and the concrete is
pumped and spread evenly.
• A vibrator is used so that the
concrete is well compacted and
there are no air voids.
• After using the vibrator, the
concrete should be levelled by
using a concrete screed tool.

41
Department of civil engineering
INTERNSHIP / PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

• Curing the slab of pump and

sump room.
• Curing is done for 21 days.

42
Department of civil engineering

• Masonry work for the HT panel

room.
• First, mortar is put and concrete
blocks laid over it.
• The first layer is made sure that it
is straight and aligned

• For connecting the HT cables to the panel room, hume pipes were required.
The HT cables would run through the hume pipes. The hume pipes join the
transformer.
• First excavation is done.
• After excavation the hume pipes are laid.

• Trench after the concrete is

poured and the shutter removed.
• For Concreting the formwork M25

• Curing of wall.
• The curing period wall
should be at least 7 days.

53
Department of civil engineering

Oil will be put on the shutter so that

after the concrete hardens it does
not stick to the shutter.

54
Department of civil engineering
INTERNSHIP / PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

Shuttering for the lintel beam and

the reinforcements are bring laid. On other side masonry wall was
built up.

55
Department of civil engineering
INTERNSHIP / PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

• After shuttering the concrete is

poured.
• Next day deshuttering has to
be done.

56
