Position in the Network

 iTC connects to multiple iBSCs on Ater interface and to multiple MSCs on A-

interface. The A-interface is between iTC and MSC is partly differenet form the
traditional A interface. The protocols of application layer are trainsmitted via iTC
in the transparent mode..

System Functions

 A and Ater interface supports both STM-1 and E1 interface.

 Supports Local Maintenance Terminal (LMT).
 Supports FLEX A interface i.e. iTC can be connected with multiple
MSCs to implement MSC disaster recovery backup.
 Supports FLEX Ater interface i.e. iBSC can be connected with
multiple iTCs to implement iTC disaster recovery backup.
 Ater interface supports minimum resource allocation granularity
of 8 kbps using current resources effectively.
 Supports Tandem Free Operation (TFO).

System Features

 The hardware platform is based on 3G platform. The whole

system core is based on IP exchange. All IP platforms conform to
the development trend of the network and are easy for network
integration.
 Implements full dynamic allocation of TC resources.
 More than one iBSC (up to 16 iBSCs) can share one iTC.
 It is managed as an independent NE, reducing operation and
maintenance complexity.
 Operation and maintenance timeslot of iBSC can be transparently
transmitted by iTC, i.e. iBSC O&M can be multiplexed to Ater
interface timeslot for transmission.
 Uses 1~4 rack configuration, which is easy for capacity expansion.

Shelf Configurations

 Resource shelf should be configured in the second and third shelves of iTC
cabinet and control shelf is configured in the second shelf of the third cabinet if
needed. For one or two cabinet iTC configuration, control shelf’s boards are
distributed in other shelves because of the lack of enough space to have a
separate shelf.
 Packet switching shelf and circuit switching shelf should be configured in the
fourth and first shelves respectively.

Control Shelf(BCTC)

 Control shelf is the control center of ZXG10 iTC system, which

manages and controls the whole system, processes control plane
signaling, and provides a global clock and external
synchronization function. Packet switching shelf and circuit
switching shelf should be configured in the fourth and first
shelves respectively.
 Each PRCBU needs a pair of CMP boards. In case the iTC is one or
two racks, control shelf is not required. In case of three to four
rack iTC, a control shelf is configured because more CMP boards
are required. Configure four PRCBU for three-rack iTC with two
CMPs in control shelf and six PRCBU for four-rack iTC with six
CMPs in control shelf.

 CLKG board in the control unit of iTC is responsible for providing the clock signals
to other parts.
 CLKG takes clock signal from 8 K BITS interface line. CLKG provides separate clock
signals to resource unit and packet switching unit. It provides 8 K clock to
resource unit through UIMT and packet switching unit through UIMC.

User Plane Signaling Flow
 User plane signaling between iBSC and DTB (Ater), GUP (Ater) of iTC is in TRAU frames in E1
timeslots. Each 64 kbps E1 timeslot contains 4 lines of GSM voice data.
 GUP (Ater) performs de-multiplexing, TDM-to-IP transformation to voice data from DTB
(Ater) and multiplexing, IP-to-TDM transformation to voice data from GUP (TC). User plane
signaling between GUP (Ater) and GUP (TC) is GSM voice data in IP packets.
 GUP (TC) transforms GSM voice data from GUP (Ater) into PCM A Law voice data, and PCM A
Law voice data from DTB (A) into GSM voice data. User plane signaling between GUP (TC),
DTB (A), and MSC is in 64 kbps PCM A Law voice data.
