Communication to begin with. The word communication gets its origin
from the Latin word "communis". It literally means "to make
common".. So when we communicate, we create a common bridge to
exchange our thoughts, ideas, feelings, etc.. "Communication is the
transmission and reception of ideas, feelings and attitudes both verbally
and non- verbally eliciting a response. It is a dynamic concept
underlying all kinds of living systems“

-Norman B Sigband.

Communication
Communication is a vital aspect of human interaction,
allowing individuals to exchange information, ideas, and
emotions. There are various channels of communication that
people use to convey messages effectively. These channels can
be categorized into verbal, non-verbal and written. Each
channel has its unique characteristics and is suitable for
different types of communication.

3
Verbal Communication
Verbal communication is the exchange of
information through spoken words. It is a direct and
personal way of communicating, allowing for
immediate feedback and clarification. Verbal
communication can take place face-to-face, over the
phone, or through video conferencing.

4
Verbal Communication
Verbal communication is direct and personal
but can lead to misunderstandings due to
accent, tone, and language barriers.

5
Non Verbal Communication
Non-verbal communication includes gestures,
body language, facial expressions, and tone of
voice. These non-verbal cues can often convey
more meaning than words alone and play a
significant role in how messages are interpreted.

6
Non Verbal Communication
Non-verbal communication is essential in
conveying emotions but can be misinterpreted
due to cultural differences and individual
interpretation.

7
Written Communication
Written communication involves the use of
written words to convey information. This can
include emails, letters, reports, memos, and text
messages. Written communication provides a
record of the conversation and allows for
careful crafting of messages.

8
Written Communication
Written communication is essential in
documenting conversations but can be
impersonal and lead to misunderstandings due
to the absence of non-verbal cues.

What are the
types of
communication
channel?
Face to face conversation
- Face-to-face communication is having the ability
to see the other person or people during a
conversation. It's an opportunity to exchange more
than just words because both the speaker and
listener(s) can observe and adjust based on body
language and expression.

Video conferencing
- Video conferencing is a type of online meeting
where two or more people engage in a live
audio-visual call. With a strong internet
connection, the participants can see, hear, and
talk to each other in real time, no matter where
in the world they are.

12
Audio conferencing
- The most common types include: Telephone
conferencing: This is the most traditional form of
audio conferencing and involves participants
dialing into a conference call using a telephone
number and access code.

Emails
- Electronic mail, commonly shortened to
"email," is a communication method that uses
electronic devices to deliver messages across
computer networks. "Email" refers to both the
delivery system and individual messages that
are sent and received.

Written letters and memos
- Memos are brief business documents usually used
internally to inform or persuade employees
concerning business decisions on policy, procedure,
