INTRODUCTION TO AI
AI involves creating computer systems that can perform
tasks requiring human-like intelligence, such as learning
from data, recognizing patterns, making decisions, and
solving problems. It's used in various fields like
healthcare, finance, and transportation, revolutionizing
how tasks are accomplished and decisions are made.
HOW MACHINE LEARNING IS RELATED TO AI
Machine learning is a subset of AI. Imagine AI as a big umbrella term covering everything related to
making machines smart, while machine learning is one of the techniques used under that umbrella.

Think of it like this: AI is like teaching a computer to think and act like a human, while machine
learning is one specific way of doing that. In machine learning, we give computers the ability to
learn from data without being explicitly programmed. This means they can improve their
performance on a task over time as they're exposed to more data.

So, in short, machine learning is a tool we use to make AI systems smarter by enabling them to learn
from experience.
EXAMPLES OF AI
1.Virtual Assistants: Virtual assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant use AI to
understand and respond to user queries, perform tasks, and provide recommendations.
2.Recommendation Systems: Platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and Spotify use AI to
analyze user behavior and preferences to recommend personalized movies, products, and
music.
3.Image Recognition: AI-powered systems can recognize objects, people, and scenes in
images. Applications include facial recognition technology, autonomous vehicles, and
medical imaging.
4.Natural Language Processing (NLP): NLP enables machines to understand, interpret,
and generate human language. Chatbots, language translation services, and sentiment
analysis tools are examples of NLP applications.
5.Fraud Detection: AI algorithms analyze patterns in financial transactions to identify
potentially fraudulent activities and prevent fraud in banking and e-commerce.
ADVANTAGES OF AI
1.Automation and Efficiency: AI enables automation of repetitive tasks, leading to increased efficiency
and productivity in various industries.
2.Improved Decision Making: AI systems can analyze vast amounts of data quickly and accurately,
assisting decision-makers in making more informed and data-driven decisions.
3.24/7 Operations: AI-powered systems can operate continuously without fatigue, enabling businesses
to provide round-the-clock services and support.
4.Enhanced Customer Experiences: AI technologies such as chatbots and virtual assistants can provide
personalized and responsive customer support, improving customer satisfaction.
5.Innovation and Discovery: AI fosters innovation by enabling the development of new products,
services, and solutions that were previously not possible.
DISADVANTAGES OF AI
1.Job Displacement: Automation driven by AI may lead to job displacement, particularly
for tasks that can be easily automated, potentially causing unemployment and economic
disruption.
2.Bias and Discrimination: AI systems can inherit biases present in the data they are
trained on, leading to discriminatory outcomes, particularly in areas such as hiring, lending,
and criminal justice.
3.Privacy Concerns: AI applications often involve the collection and analysis of large
amounts of personal data, raising concerns about privacy and data security.
4.Overreliance and Dependency: Overreliance on AI systems without proper human
oversight can lead to errors, malfunctions, and dependency on technology that may not
always be reliable.
5.Ethical Dilemmas: AI raises complex ethical dilemmas, such as the use of autonomous
weapons, the impact on human autonomy, and the potential for AI to surpass human
intelligence, posing existential risks.
HOW CAN WE USE AI
RESPONSIBLY

1.Ensure data is diverse and unbiased.

2.Be transparent about AI systems.
3.Maintain human oversight.
4.Strive for fairness and equity.
5.Hold stakeholders accountable.
