THEOREMS ON TRIANGLE

INEQUALITIES
GRADE 8
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Illustrates theorems on triangle inequalities(Exterior Angle Inequality Theorem, Triangle

Inequality Theorem, Hinge Theorem).
SUCCESS CRITERIA

• Understand the concept that the sum of the interior angles of a triangle is
always 180 degrees.
• Apply the angle inequality theorem, which states that in any triangle, the
measure of any two interior angles must be greater than the measure of the
third interior angle.
• Solve problems involving angle inequality, such as determining whether a
given set of angle measures can form a triangle or not.
EXTERIOR ANGLE INEQUALITY THEOREM

A triangle has three interior angles

∠1, ∠2, and ∠3
4 5
An exterior angle of a triangle is an 1
angle which forms a linear pair
(adjacent) with one of the triangle’s
interior
∠1:angle.
∠4 and ∠5
∠2: ∠6 and ∠7
∠3: ∠8 and ∠9 6
2
Remote interior angle are two interior 7
angles not adjacent to the exterior 9 3
angles. 8
∠5: ∠2 and ∠3 ∠9: ∠1 and ∠7: ∠1 and ∠3
∠2
