PARALLEL LINES and
TRANSVERSALS
Angles Formed by Transversal
PARALLEL LINES
▪ Parallel lines are coplanar lines that do not intersect.

line a || line b 𝑨𝑩 || 𝑪𝑫
“line a is parallel to line b” “line AB is parallel to line CD”
Let’s Try!
Complete the statement.

1. 𝐌𝐄 || 𝐑𝐀 or 𝐊𝐈

2. 𝐑𝐓 || 𝐌𝐊 or 𝐀𝐃

3. 𝐊𝐓 || 𝐌𝐑 or 𝐈𝐃
TRANSVERSAL
▪ A transversal is a line intersecting two or more coplanar lines at
different points.

line c is the transversal line l is the transversal no transversal

because it intersects because it intersects shown in the
line a and line b line m and line n figure

THE TRIANGLE SUM THEOREM
“Also known as the Triangle Angle Sum
Theorem”
TRIANGLE SUM THEOREM
States that the sum of all the interior angles of any triangle is
always equal to 180°.

Formula:

∠ A + ∠B + ∠C = 180°
TRIANGLE SUM THEOREM
Examples:
1. Find the measure of the missing angle.

m∠1 + 60 + 85 = 180°
m∠1 + 145 = 180°
- 145 = - 145
m∠1 = 35°
TRIANGLE SUM THEOREM
Examples:
2. Find the measure of the missing angle.
m∠2 + 148 = 180°
- 148 = -148
m∠2 = 32°

m∠1 + 32 + 92 = 180°
2 m∠1 + 124 = 180°
- 124 = -124
m∠1 = 56°
TRIANGLE SUM THEOREM
Examples:
3. Find the measure of the missing angle.
m∠4 + 106 + 47 = 180°
m∠4 + 153 = 180°
-153 = -153
m∠4 = 27°
4 m∠2 = 27°

m∠1 + 27 = 180°
- 27 = -27
m∠1 = 153°
TRIANGLE SUM THEOREM
Examples:
3. Find the measure of the missing angle.

m∠4 = 27°
m∠2 = 27°
m∠1 = 153°
4 m∠3 + 27 + 58 = 180°
m∠3 + 85 = 180°
- 85 = -85
m∠3 = 95°
