INTRODUCTION TO AEBS
 Automated Emergency Braking System (AEBS) is an advanced safety
feature found in modern vehicles. It uses sensors to detect potential
collisions and automatically applies the brakes to help avoid or
mitigate an impact. AEB systems are designed to enhance driver
safety and reduce the risk of accidents, particularly in unexpected
situations.
LITERATURE SURVEY
Prof.A.P.Thakare : There have been considerable advances braking systems in recent years.
Designers have proposed several enhancements range radar system was developed for and
applications where automatic braking is applied in response to detection of a collision risk
where a very high probability of detection is accompanied by a very low level of false
alarms. A brake strategy for an automatic parking system of vehicle has proposed brake
controller which work with the automatic parking system and make the process of parking
smooth and stable.
Mr.Tushar Kavatkar : The braking system was designed and applied on a car to make the
driving process safety using embedded system design. Most of the accident occurs due to
the delay of the driver to hit the brake, so in this project work braking system is developed
such that when it is active it can apply brake depending upon the object sensed by the
ultrasonic sensor and speed of vehicle. Currently, vehicles are often equipped with active
safety systems to reduce the risk of accidents, many of which occur in the
urban environments.
OBJECTIVES

To develop an intelligent braking system for automobiles.

To find the braking distance at various vehicle speeds as well as
minimum
distance before collision.
WHY AEB REQUIRED IN VEHICLES
AUTOMATED : the system acts independently of the driver to avoid or
mitigate the accident.

EMERGENCY : the system will intervene only in a critical situation.

BRAKING : the system tries to avoid the accident & crashes by
applying the brakes.
HOW THE BRAKING IS APPLIED
 The AEB system monitors the vehicle’s surroundings via sensors and
cameras and detects the obstacles.
 The system triggers a warning to the driver about a potential collision,
and if the driver is late to respond, it automatically applies the brakes.
PARTS OF AEBS
 SENSOR : The sensors are constantly monitoring the distance between your
car and the obstacle (moving car, pedestrian, etc.) ahead.

 RADAR & CAMERAS : radars and cameras is used to detect road

surface markings, potential obstacles and vehicles ahead on the road.

 ECU : the electronic control unit collects data from sensors distributed across
the engine and use to analyse performance and fuel consumption adjustments.

ECU
WORKING OF AEBS
Automated emergency braking system which works on the
basis of the cameras and sensors continuously monitor the
distance between you and the obstacle ahead. If there is a
rapid decrease in the distance between the two vehicles, the
sensors instantly identify it, generating a warning in the form
of sounds or visuals. Even after these warning signs, you
delay your reaction to pressing the brakes; the AEB takes full
control of your vehicle. An Electronic Control Unit (ECU)
can detect if you are applying the brakes, and accordingly,
the AEB system slows down or stops the vehicle.

ADVANTAGES
Crashes can be reduced.
Allows the driver to maintain the directional stability and control over
steering during braking.

 It controls over steering to avoid the unwanted collision.

DISADVANTAGES

Difficult to sense from soft , curved, thin, & small objects.

Maintainance cost of a vehicle after equipped with this technologies rises higher.

AEBS is an expensive system.

APPLICATIONS

 Automated emergency braking system where brakes are applied automatically in

case of emergency.

 It is applied for protecting against rare end collision.

It is applied for controlling automobiles and guided vehicles in industries.
CONCLUSION
AEB system eliminates or mitigates the severity of various types of crashes like
head on collision, pedestrian crashes. In the present work, the use of ultrasonic
sensors with the use of stereo cameras helps to determine the distance between the
vehicle and the obstacle. An sensor can detect any kind of obstacle thus it also
prevents collision of vehicle with pedestrians by the effect of the crash. Thus
emerging as the safest technology presently update for the
prevention of accidents.
