Derivatives can be de ned as
the limit of the average rate of
change in the function as the
length of the interval on which
the average is computed tends
to zero

power rule, product rule,
quotient rule, and chain

PROPERTIES
OF
1.
CONTINUTY
Here are some properties of continuity of a function. If two functions f(x) and g(x) are

continuous at x = a then f + g, f - g, and fg are continuous at x = a. f/g is also

continuous at x = a

provided g(a) ≠ 0. If f is continuous at g(a), then the composition function (f o g) is also

continuous at x = a. All polynomial functions are continuous over the set of all real

numbers. The absolute value function |x| is continuous over the set of all real numbers.

Exponential functions are continuous at all real numbers. The functions sin x and cos x are

continuous at all real numbers. The functions tan x, cosec x, sec x, and cot x are continuous

on their respective domains. The functions like log x, ln x, √x, etc are continuous on their

respective domains.
EXPLORING THE CONCEPT OF
THE
AVERAGE RATE OF CHANGE
IN DIFFERENTIATION.

Di e rentiation helps us understand

the concept of rates of change,
which measures how one quantity
changes in relation to another. It is
crucial in various fields such as
physics, economics, and
engineering to analyze and
predict changes in systems.
OPTIMIZATION WITH DIFFERENTIATION

Using di erentiation, we can find the

maximum and minimum values of a
function, which is essential for
optimization problems. This involves
finding the critical points and using the
first and second derivative tests to
determine the nature of the extremum.
N UM ERI CAL PROBLEM-
SOLVING

D i erentiation is used in numerical

problem-solving to analyze and solve
real-world problems involving change
and rates. It allows us to model and
understand various phenomena such as
population growth, radioactive decay,
and fluid dynamics.
APPLICATIONS OF DIFFERENTIATION

Di erentiation has diverse applications

in fields such as physics, engineering,
economics, and biology. It is used to
analyze motion, optimize designs, model
growth and decay, and understand the
behavior of complex systems.
C H A L L E N G E S I N DIFFERENTIATION

Despite its utility, di erentiation poses

challenges in handling complex
functions, understanding the behavior
of discontinuous functions, and dealing
with indeterminate forms. Overcoming
these challenges requires a deep
understanding of the principles of
calculus and mathematical analysis.

Di erentiation is a powerful tool for understanding the behavior

of functions, analyzing rates of change, and solving optimization
problems. Mastering the concepts of di erentiation and its
applications equips us with the ability to tackle diverse
mathematical and real-world challenges.
