Written examinations will be held on common dates for all the railways. On the basis of marks obtained in the written exams, candidates will be shortlisted for Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Candidates will be further shortlisted in order of merit and called for verification of original certificates and identity. After the verification of all relevant originals of passed candidates, the candidates shall be subjected to Medical Examination. 11.1 Written examination: (i) The question paper for the written examination shall be based on class 10th standard consisting of 100 multiple choice (four) objective type questions aimed to assess the General Knowledge/Awareness, Mathematics, General Science, Reasoning, etc. (ii) The duration of the written examination shall be 90 (ninety) minutes. (iii) The question paper shall be printed in Hindi and English and also in regional languages. (iv) Negative Marking - There will be negative marking for wrong answers. One third marks shall be deducted for each wrong answer, i.e. one mark shall be deducted for every 3 wrong answers. 11.2 Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for all categories.: Passing the PET is mandatory and the same will be qualifying in nature. 11.3 NOTE: (i) Candidates shortlisted in the written test shall be required to appear in Physical Efficiency Test (PET). A separate advice indicating date, time and venue will be sent to them. (vi) The venue of PET/written examination once decided by Railway administration shall be final, no request for change for whatever ground shall be entertained. (vii) For PET, candidates may be required to stay one or two days more than the appointed day at their own cost. They have to make their own arrangements for lodging/boarding. (viii) Maintaining discipline by the candidates at the venue of PET is must. Any act of indiscipline will debar the candidate from consideration. examination. In all such cases the following rules will apply. (1) The candidate will have to arrange his/her own scribe at his/her cost. Deaf & Hearing Impaired (HI) The deaf are those persons in whom the sense of hearing is non- functional for ordinary purposes of life i.e. total loss of hearing in both ears. They do not hear, understand sounds at all even with amplified speech. Hearing impairment means loss of sixty decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies. Orthopedically Challenged (OC) Locomotor Disability means disability of bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy. Cerebral Palsy means a group of non-progressive conditions of person characterized by abnormal motor control posture resulting from brain insult or injuries occurring in the pre-natal, peri-natal or infant period of development. PHYSICAL EFFICIENCY TEST (PET):

4.1 Based on the performance in the Written Examination, eligible candidates equal to three times the number of vacancies in the order of merit, will be called for PET. A separate advice, indicating date, time and venue of PET will be communicated to the eligible candidates. 4.2 Passing' the Physical Efficiency Test is mandatory and the same will be qualifying in nature. The Criterion for the PET will be as under: For Male Candidates : Should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one.chance. For Female Candidates: Should be able to run for a distance of 400 metres in 3 minutes and 10 seconds in one chance. 4.3 Selection is made strictly based on merit. Shortlisted candidates will be called for Document Verification based on their merit position, availability of vacancies and reservation rules. as the case may be. 9.3.3 SCRIBE FOR VISUALLY HANDICAPPED CANDIDATES: Visually Impaired Candidates / those candidates whose writing speed is affected by Cerebral Palsy can avail the assistance of SCRIBE for writing answers on their behalf. For engaging the SCRIBE, the candidate will have to suitably inform the RRC in advance as per Proforma is available in the website. The engagement of-SCRIBE will be subject to the following conditions: (a) The candidates will have to arrange their own SCRIBES at their own cost during the examination. Separate Admit Cards will be issued to the SCRIBES accompanying the Visually Handicapped candidates. Admit Card should contain the particulars and photograph of the SCRIBE duly signed by him/her. (b) The academic qualification of the SCRIBE should be one grade below the qualification prescribed for the post for which recruitment is being made. (c) The SCRIBE can be from any academic discipline if the recruitment is for general post. If the recruitment is for a specialist post, he/she should be from a discipline different from that of the candidate. (d) The candidates as well as the SCRIBE will have to give a suitable undertaking (Proforma is available in the website) confirming that the SCRIBE fulfils all the stipulated eligibility criteria for a scribe as mentioned above. In case, it transpires later that he / she did not fulfil any of the laid down eligibility criteria, there has been suppression of material facts, the candidature of the applicant will stand cancelled irrespective of the result of the examination. The visually handicapped candidates shall be responsible for any misconduct on the part of SCRIBE brought by him/her. (e) Candidates availing the assistance of a SCRIBE shall be eligible for extra time of 20 minutes for every hour of the examination. 9.3.4 All one-eyed candidates and VH candidates whose visual degree of disability is less than 40% shall not be considered as visually handicapped person and the provision of engaging SCRIBE shall not be applicable to them. 9.3.5 For those, whose disabilities are 'Temporary" the disability certificate should be valid for a period of 5 years. The Medical Board should indicate the period of validity of the certificate, where there are chances of variation in the degree of disability. For those with permanent disability, the disability can be shown as "Permanent". 9.3.6 After qualifying in the written examination, the Persons with Disabilities are exempted from PET for recruitment to the posts identified suitable for them. Such candidates will have to pass the Medical Examination prescribed for Persons with Disabilities before empanelment. 10.0 EX-SERVICEMEN CANDIDATES 0.1 The term Ex-Serviceman means, "a person who has served in any rank (whether as a combatant or non-combatant) in the regular Army, Navy or Air Force of the Indian Union but does not include a person who has served in the Defence Security Corps, the General Reserved Engineering Force, The Lok Sahayak Sena and the Para Military Forces; and (i) who retired from such service after earning his/her pension; or (ii) who has been released from such service on medical grounds attributable to Military Service or circumstances beyond his control and awarded medical or other disability pension; or (iii) who has been released, otherwise than on his own request, from such service as a result of reduction in establishment; or (iv) who has been released from such service after completing the specific period of engagement, otherwise than at his own request or by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, and has been given a gratuity; and includes personnel of the Territorial Army of the following categories, namely:- a) Pension holders for continuous embodied service, b) Persons with disability attributable to military service and c) Gallantry award winners. Explanation: The persons serving in the armed forces of the Union, who on retirement from service, would come under the category of Ex-Servicemen, may be permitted to apply for reemployment one year before the completion of the specific terms of engagement and avail themselves of all concessions available to Ex-Servicemen, but shall not be permitted to leave the uniform until they complete the specified terms of engagement in the Armed Forces of the Union. 10.2 Service Personnel who are likely to be discharged from military service on or before 31 -10-2014 are eligible to apply against this notification. 10.3 Ex-Servicemen are required to clearly indicate all required particulars including Community in the Application Form. 10.4 Ex-Servicemen candidates who have already secured employment under Ex-Servicemen Quota in Central / State Government in Group C or D categories will be given only age relaxation but will not be considered against Ex-Servicemen Quota. 10.5 DISCHARGE CERTIFICATE FOR EX-SERVICEMEN: Candidates claiming the benefits under the category of Ex-Servicemen shall produce a copy of Discharge Certificate issued by competent.authority at the time of Document Verification and enclose a copy of the same with the application for the failing which, his / her candidature will not be treated as Ex-servicemen. 9.1: VISUALLY HANDICAPPED (a) Blindness: "Blindness" refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the following conditions, namely:- (i) total absence of sight, or (ii) visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (snellen) in the better eye with correcting lens'es; or (iii) limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degrees or worse; (b) Low vision: "Persons with low vision" means a person with impairment of visual functioning even after treatment or standard refractive correction but who uses or is potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution or a task with appropriate assistive device. 9.2 HEARING HANDICAPPED Hearing Impairment: ''Hearing Impairment'' means loss of 60 decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies.

9.3 ORTHOPAEDICALLY HANDICAPPED (a) Locomotor disability : "Locomotor disability" means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy. (b) Cerebral Palsy: "Cerebral Palsy"means a group of non-progressive conditions of a person characterised by abnormal motor control posture resulting from brain insult or injuries occurring in the pre-natal, peri-natal or infant period of development. (c) All the cases of orthopaedically handicapped persons would be covered under the category of "Locomotor disability" or "Cerebral Palsy". 9.3.1 DEGREE OF DISABILITY FOR RESERVATION: Only such persons would be eligible for reservation In services/posts who suffer from not less than 40 percent of relevant disability.
