 Show through a model on how earth rotates on its axis.

*Demonstrate appreciation of knowledge
*Observe willingness to do work

direction.

D. Science Processes:

E. Value:
 Demonstrate appreciation of knowledge
 Observe willingness to do work

III – Procedure:

A. Preparatory Activities:

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY PUPILS’ ACTIVITY

Opening Prayer (Multimedia)

Good morning class! Good morning ma’am.

Now, everybody take your seats. Thank you ma’am.
Children, how are you today? We’re all okay ma’am.

That’s nice to hear!

 Setting of Standards

Class, What are you going to to do

when we will have our lesson? listen attentively, avoid
talking
and sit properly.

Correct!

How about if you want to answer,

What will you do? Just raise your hand and
do not answer in chorus.

That’s right!

1. Drill

Class, do you want to play a game? Yes ma’am!

Okay, let’s play a game.
Just raise your right hand if you want to
answer.

Is that clear class? Yes ma’am!

 Read the sentences carefully. Unscramble the letters

to know what is described. Write the answers in the box.

1. It is the place where people, animals, and plants live.

THERA EARTH

2. It is the turning of the eartht on its axis.

TARONOTI ROTATION

3. An imaginary line which runs through the center

of the Earth between the North and South poles.

XISA AXIS

B. Developmental Activities:

1. Motivation

(The teacher will present or

show a globe to the pupils)

Class, try to look at the globe.

Who among you here can locate the axis? (The pupil will find the axis ina globe)

Very good!

How about the North Pole?South Pole?

Who can locate here in a globe?(The pupil will locate the North
Pole/ South pole in a globe)

Okay, turn the globe into a counter - clockwise

direction. (The pupil will turn the globe in
a counter - clockwise direction)

Now when you turn the globe,

Did it rotate? Yes ma’am!
Did it spin? Yes ma’am!

Alright!

2. Presentation

(The teacher will show a picture of

the earth’s rotation)

Try to look at the picture,

What does it show? It shows the illustration of earth that
rotates on its axis.

Very good!

Now let us see on how the earth rotates.

(The teacher will play a video showing

earth’s rotation.)

What is the video all about?earth’s rotation – it shows

that earth is moving around on its axis

That’s right! Another observation? Earth is moving from west to

east direction

Group Activity:

 Divide the class into four groups.

 Based on the video that watched a while ago, the pupils will be tasked to make a model of
an earth that rotates on its axis and answer the guide questions.
 Each group will be given an envelope that contains the materials needed for the activity.
 Each group will report their answer.

Guide Questions:

1. How does the earth rotate on its axis?

2. How long does it take to make one complete rotation of the earth?
3. What is the imaginary line on which the earth spins?
4. What do you call the movement of the earth on its axis?

3. Discussion

( The teacher will let the pupils read “Earth’s Rotation”)

Earth is one of the planet in the solar system where we live in.

The earth spins right? Yes ma’am

Now, when it spins does it also rotate? Yes ma’am

Very good!

How many hours/day does the earth rotates on its axis? There are 24 hrs. or 1
day

You’re right!

One complete rotation of the earth on its axis is equal to

one day or 24 hours.

How does the earth rotate on its axis? The earth rotates on its axis
from west to east or in a
counter-clockwise direction
Okay, that’s right!

What do you call the line that runs through

the earth in a counter-clockwise direction? Axis is the line that runs
through the earth

4. Comparison and Abstraction

Compare the movements of the hands

of the clock and the rotation of the earth.
(The teacher will show the illustration
of the clock and the earth)

In what ways are they similar? They are similar in the rotation
process.
They both rotates

In what ways are they different? They differ in the direction.

The hands of the clock
rotates in a clockwise
direction while the earth
rotates in a counter-
clockwise direction.
Very well said!

5. Value Integration

*Does your knowledge about the earth’s rotation

help you understand about the planet earth? Yes ma’am. We already know
that
- the earth is where we live in
- the earth rotates
- the earth takes 24 hrs / I day

*Did you work willingly on assigned task? Yes ma’am

Okay, in what way? We finished our duties on

time.

Very good!

Remember class.
“Do not wait for tomorrow what you can do today”
because as the earth rotates time is moving.
Let us value time because “Time is gold”.

C. Post Activities:

1. Concept Formation

Class, what have you learned from our lesson today? I learned that the earth
- takes 24 hrs.or 1 day to make
one complete rotation on its axis.
- It rotates in a counter-clockwise
direction.

Very good!

2. Application

 EARTH’S ROTATION ROLE PLAY – The class will be divided into groups of Two [2] one will
act as an AXIS and EARTH. As the teacher’s signal the group shall arrange themselves to
form a “human axis and earthprocess”. A brief explanation of what they are doing will
follow.

IV – Evaluation:

Direction: Read the question carefully. Choose the correct answer inside the box. Write
your answers in the space provided.

__________1. It is the place where people, animals and plants live.

__________2.An imaginary line which runs through the center of the North and South poles.
__________3. It is the movement of the earth on its axis.
__________4.One complete rotation of the earth.
__________5. It is the direction of the earth’s rotation.

EARTH 24 HOURS/ONE DAY

ROTATION AXIS

COUNTER-CLOCKWISE

V – Agreement:

 Draw an earth that rotates on its axis. Do this in a one whole sheet of short bond paper.
