At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
a. Describe the rotation of the Earth;
b. Appreciate the importance of Earth’s rotation and;
c. Show through a model the effect of Earth’s rotation.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Rotation of the Earth

A. Elicit (Review)
Class do you want to play a
game? Isn’t it last time we
discussed about Earth? Yes teacher.

Read the sentences carefully.

Just raise your hand if you want
to answer. Are you ready? Yes teacher.

Unscramble the letters to know

what is being described. Write
the answers in the box.

1. It is the shape of the Earth.

Oblate Spheroid
LATEOB HEPSROID

2. It is the only planet known

to support living things.

Earth
TEARH
3. An imaginary line which
runs through the center of
the Earth between the
North pole and the South
pole.
Equator

EUAQOTR
4. A straight line where the
Earth rotates.

Axis
AIXS
5. The Earth is the third planet
in _____

SLAOR SSYETM Solar System

B. Engage
What is this class? A globe teacher

Very Good! Who among you

here can locate the axis? Kim? Here teacher.

Good! Who among you can

locate North Pole and South Here teacher
Pole. Bea?

Very Good! And who among

you can turn the globe into
counterclockwise direction?
Daniel?

Amazing! When you turn the

globe, did it rotate? Yes teacher.

Now, look at this picture. What

does the picture show? Faye? The picture shows that the Earth
rotates counterclockwise.

Precisely!

C. Explore

I will show you a video of

Earth’s rotation for you to have
a background about our lesson
for today. Are you ready? Yes teacher.

Did you enjoy the video

presentation class? Yes teacher.

Now, what can you say about

the video? What does it show? Rotation of the Earth.
Yes Mark?

Very good. How does the earth

rotate? Karol? Counterclockwise

Precisely! Into what direction?

Lyle? From west to east

Very Good! I will divide you

into four groups. Based on the
video presented, you will be
tasked to show how the Earth
rotates on its axis using a
model. I will give envelopes
containing the materials needed
in the activity and after that
each group will choose a
representative to report their
answer. Do I make myself clear Yes teacher
class?

Very good! I inserted guide

questions on that envelope for
you to be able to present the
activity properly.

(After ten minutes)

D. Explain
Okay, the group one will share
their answers to us. Keep quiet.
Remember, you will learn a lot
in listening rather than talking.
Yes teacher.
(All groups will report their
answers)

Very good! Give yourselves a

round of applause.

Earth is in constant motion.

One such motion is called
rotation.

How does the Earth rotate on

its axis?
The Earth rotates on its axis
counterclockwise or from west to
Very good! east.
Earth rotates at a speed of 1670
km/hr. Earth complete rotation
takes about 24 hours or one
day.

How long does it take for Earth

to make a complete rotation?
One complete rotation of the Earth on
its axis is equivalent to one day or 24
Correct! hours.
One observable phenomenon
due to the movement of Earth
on its axis is the transition
between day and night. As
Earth rotates, it is daytime on
the part of Earth that faces the
sun and nighttime on the part of
Earth that is turned away from
the sun.
Is that clear class?
Yes teacher.
Great!

E. Elaborate

Now, let us see if you truly

understand what we have
discussed. Again, what do you
call the imaginary line in where
the Earth rotates? Jessa?
Axis.
What do you call the movement
on its axis?
Rotation.
Very good! In what direction
does Earth rotate? Leia?
From west to east.
Correct! How fast does Earth
rotates? Mary Shane?
1670 km/hr.
Correct! Earth complete
rotation takes about how many
hours? Alison?
24 hours or one day.
What is the importance
of the rotation of the Earth?
Hea? Transition of day and night.

Is it okay if we experience only

nighttime?
No teacher.
Or it is okay if it is always
daytime?
No teacher.
Why it is important to have
daytime and nighttime?
(Answers vary)

Great! I think you really

understand our lesson today.
