Principals Message: Dear Parents, It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is just around the corner. What an exciting time it has been in Our Lady of Mercy recently. Featuring on RTE News2day and Showcasing our state of the art computer room and our award winning blog was definitely a highlight for all involved. The positive publicity did not stop there as i102-104 radio station broadcast from the school recently when Nicole Colburn won a very special birthday prize. As the final term draws to a close, I ask you to continue encouraging your children to work hard. With every good wish _________________ Marguerite Stenson CONFIRMATION: Congratulations to all the boys and girls in 6th class who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday May 20th and many thanks to the Parents Association who organised a reception back at the school afterwards for the parents and children. FIRST COMMUNION SATURDAY, 28th MAY 2011: Second Class are very busy preparing for 1st Communion which will take place on Saturday, May 28th @ 11.30 in St. Annes Church. Parents of 3. Children receiving the sacrament have received special information letters. NEW JUNIOR INFANTS: We were delighted to welcome our new Junior Infants to school on the afternoon of Wednesday 18th May. We will have three classes this year and wish them well as they prepare for school. APPOINTMENTS: As always, if you have any concerns, questions or queries, please make an appointment with Maura/Peggy at the office to meet with teachers. You will be facilitated as soon as possible.

SCHOOL TOURS: Many classes are going on school tours this term so start saving! Parents must sign the consent form in order to allow them to go. SPORTS / FUN DAY Friday 17th June: This will take place on Friday June 17th. Fun day for all with lots of new sports and games to try out. SPORT: Gaelic: The school Gaelic teams, once again, played very well against St. Johns on Tuesday. Congratulations to the girls team who won their match. Today the teams will play against St. Edwards School. Unfortunately, this week was the last week for the Gaelic coaching but we were delighted to have Charlie Harrison training our players and sharing his expertise on Wednesday. The children really benefitted from this session. G.A.A. Blitz:: There will be another Gaelic Blitz day for all 3rd and 4th classes in Calry on June 1st. This is a fun day when all the children get the opportunity to learn new skills. TRANSFER PROGRAMME: The Transfer Programme to second level has taken place in all 6th classes. We hope this programme has helped to remove any anxieties or concerns that your child may be experiencing regarding secondary school. Assessment tests for Summerhill College and Mercy College have taken place. Children have also been attending St. Angelas College as part of the Access / Transfer Programme. Children have benefited greatly from this experience.

10 H.S.C.L.: . Congratulations to the four parents who completed the Incredible Years Parent training programme. Sharon Foley and Sandra McNulty were the leaders and were delighted that everybody (including themselves) enjoyed and benefited from the content of the course. Anybody that is interested in taking some time out to think about the ways that they parent and would be interested in attending the programme should give their names to Ms. McNulty for the next session. 11 PARENTS ASSOCIATION: . The Confirmation party hosted by the Parents Association went extremely well and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. It will be followed up by the Communion party this Saturday, 28th May and the Parents Association would be delighted with help between 12.30 and 2.30 in the school hall as four of the members have children for Communion themselves. Irish Classes continue each Friday morning at 9.00am and we welcome any more parents that would like to attend. 12 EASTER RAFFLE - 560: . 14 GOOD LUCK: . Good luck to Leah Fox in Ms. Kilcawleys 5TH class who is travelling to Aberdeen in Scotland from the 7th 10th July to represent Ireland in the Youth European Cup for Dart playing. Leah is currently rated as number 2 in Ireland in her sport. We wish you well.
