Reading Students will practice reading comprehension strategies. Our focus this week is still questioning. What is the main idea? How did the author organize his or her writing? Spelling Week Three (Review of VCC-igh, Open Syllables-y, -ay, ew, -ow) high, sigh, bright, cry, fly, stay, play, clay, chew, flew, know, slow Bonus: flight, spry, whew, glow Student should be reviewing past lists to prepare for dictation sentences on their weekly spelling tests. Writing - Students will learn continue learning Six + 1 Traits of Writing with a focus on ideas and organization. Students are learning how authors organize their ideas into clear beginnings, middles and ends and how authors use transition words to help the writing flow. Math Students will continue estimating differences and using mental math strategies to subtract. Science Students will continue our study of rocks and minerals. Social Studies We will continue our unit on the roots of democracy and the influence of Ancient Greece and begin learning about our government.
