Part 1: Analytical Solution (a) For the top 6-pulse rectifier the output voltage across resistor R1 is Vr1 (assumption). The output voltage Vr1 is equal to the voltage Vd11d21 as only D11 and D21 diodes conduct during time interval 30o < t < 90 o The following pulse output for Vr1 during the time interval is

( ) {

| | }

The function is periodic with period of 60 o or /3 Then the average value or the DC component is given by

Vd1 = Hence we have

VLL = Va1b1 = VD11D21 = Vr1 Now Va1b1 = Va1N - Vb1N Where Va1N = 100 Sin Vb1N = 100 Sin ( )

Therefore Va1b1 = 100 Sin - 100 Sin ( = 100 {Sin - 100 Sin ( = 200 Cost ( ) Sin ( = x 100 Cos ( ) Calculating Vdc = = =

) )} )

= = 165.39V The voltage across R1 with the 6 pulse converter is 165.39V

Solution (b) For the 12-pulse rectifier the output voltage across resistor R1 is Vr1+Vr2 (assumption voltage across R2). The output voltage Vr1 is equal to the voltage Vd11d21 as only D11 and D21 diodes conduct during time interval 30o < t < 90 o The following pulse output for Vr during the time interval is

( ) and goes on

( ) {

| | }

The period of the graph is 30 o or /6

So total output of the equation comes out to be Va1b1= x 100 Cos ( Vb2c2= Vb2N Vc2N = 100 Cos ( Vr = x 100 Cos ( = 180 Cos( ) ) +30o) + 100 Cos ( ) Average output equation )

Vdc = =

= = 343.77V The voltage output of the 12 pulse converter is 343.77V
