To celebrate National Recycling Week from 9 – 15 November 2009, the Department of Territory and Municipal Services is launching a recycling competition. The competition aims to raise awareness about recycling and bust some common myths. For instance, many people do not realise that in the ACT, empty aerosol cans should go into the yellow-topped recycling bins.
The prizes are worth over $1600 and include Westfield shopping centre vouchers, Hoyts family movie passes and specially manufactured USB drives. The competition will run from Tuesday 10 November 2009 until Friday 4 December 2009.

1. Starting date for the Aerosol Can competition is
Tuesday 10 November 2009. Entries will close on Friday 4 December 2009. This means that if you put an entry on an aerosol can in your recycling bin, and that bin is collected any time between 10 November 2009 and 10 am 4 December 2009 you will be in the draw. 2. The draw will take place at the Materials Recovery Facility on John Cory Road, Hume, ACT (just off the Monaro Highway.) 3. Name of the promoter is ACT NOWaste, ABN 37307 569 373. 4. The competition is open to all ACT residents. Thiess Services and ACT NOWaste staff are not permitted to enter this competition. 5. Entry is by completing the competition entry form and attaching it to the outside of an EMPTY aerosol can. The entry is then to be placed into a household recycling bin. Participants can enter as many times as they like. 6. A representative from Thiess Services will draw three entries each working day starting Tuesday 10 November 2009 and closing Friday 4 December 2009. These entries will be placed into the prize draw. 7. The draw will be conducted on Tuesday 8 December 2009 at midday. 8. The first four entries drawn from the prize draw will each receive a $200 gift voucher for Westfield shopping centres. The next 10 drawn entries will each receive a family pass to Hoyts cinemas each valued at $59. The following 20 drawn entries will each receive a USB Stick in the shape of a household recycling collection truck valued at $14.30 plus GST. 9. Winners will be notified by phone on the day of the draw and by mail. If any of the prize winners are not contactable, an unclaimed prize draw will occur on Tuesday 9 March 2010. 10. Entry forms can be found in the Canberra Chronicle each week throughout the draw starting from Tuesday 10 November 2009. They can also be found on the Territory and Municipal Services website at www.tams.act.gov.au . Also entries can be found at ACT Public libraries and ACT Government Shopfronts.
