Learning Intentions:
Understand the different motives behind peoples lack of physical activity in Australia

Skill:
Able to identify trends in data, graph results and answer discussion questions



Class submission and debrief of hyperkinetic disease assignment.

Quick discussion/recap about last weeks findings:
How active are Australians (what trends they found in the handout) going forward were
looking at WHY people do or dont participate in physical activity.
Community initiatives discuss some of the ones they made
5 minutes


Workbook handout Physical Activity in Australia graphing and questions
Students should be able to recognize trends in data, graph results and answer the discussion
questions. Walk around class to gain an understanding of students varying abilities and provide
feedback Students will be submitting discussion question for constructive comments.
20 minutes


Brainstorm factors as to why people dont participate in physical activity. Brainstorm on the board
MINDMAP students to copy it down into their workbooks.
Question going forward is how they overcome these barriers?
10 minutes


Handout: What keeps you from being more active?
Students measure what factors; lack of time, social influence, lack of energy, lack of willpower, fear of
injury, lack of skill and lack of resources influences them the most. WHY next lesson discuss barriers
to participation
20 minutes


What are our barriers to physical activity right now? Identify and break down these barriers so the
class can head outside for a team sport. Split the class into two groups (one playing soccer - one
playing dodge ball).

Difference between personal barriers and environmental barriers
Realistic ways of overcoming barriers to physical activity (assign certain barriers to small groups)
