7 Things Students Want to

Know
1. Am I in the right room?
a. Make sure the Room Number, Teacher Name
and Subject are clearing and largely printed
on the front board.
2. Where am I supposed to sit?
a. Greet them at the door and tell them to sit
wherever they choose today.
3. What are the rules of the class?
a. After all students are sitting, go over the
posted rules of the class, which will be on a
large poster in the room.
4. What will I be doing this year and
5. How will I be graded?
a. Both of these can be answered by a
complete and thorough syllabus that will be
handed to the student and require a parent
signature for the first grade of the year.
6. Who is the teacher as a person?
a. During the ice breaker portion, the teacher
can play along with the students. Additional
bio information can be found on the
teachers class website.
7. Will the teacher treat me as a human being?
a. I think most students will be comforted by a
teacher that greets at the door, clearly
explains the classroom expectations,
attempts to learn their names the first day
and shows his/her willingness to identify

with the students by participating in the ice

breakers.
