Things Students Want to Know on the First Day of School
1. Am I in the right room? I plan to be outside my door to greet all students on the first day of school. 2. Where am I supposed to sit? Students will have their names displayed on the classroom door and on their assigned seat. 3. What are the rules in this classroom? Classroom rules will be posted on a bulletin board and discussed frequently throughout the school year. 4. What will I be doing this year? Students will receive goal cards at the beginning of the year with clear expectations for them. 5. How will I be graded? Kindergarten students will be formally and informally assessed in multiple subjects throughout the year. 6. Who is the teacher as a person? On the first day of school I have an activity planned to introduce myself to the students. I also plan to have pictures up around the room of myself and my family. 7. Will the teacher treat me as a human being? I want my students to know from the first day that my classroom is their classroom and that we are a community!
